Trump supporters criticized by liberal media commentators as 'Trumpism': a 'clash of avarice and animosity'
Don Lemon and Jen Rubin, both former CNN host and Washington Post columnist respectively, criticized the supporters of the president-elect.
In recent days, several liberal media commentators have criticized President-elect Donald Trump's supporters as the year comes to a close and Biden prepares to leave the White House.
According to Rick Wilson, founder of The Lincoln Project, Trump's hyperpopulist, non-college-educated base, which is the majority if certain arguments are made, will always associate the word "immigrant" or "visa" with "brown people bad."
Wilson addressed the varying views among Republicans regarding the H1-B visa program for skilled workers, which Trump admitted he has utilized at his properties.
Wilson stated that the belief that the individual with a GED, Oakley sunglasses, goatee, and pickup truck, who is commonly seen on Twitter as a universal "bro," secretly believes that they could have been a senior software designer at Google if it weren't for DEI or immigration policies. This notion is preposterous.
The president-elect's supporters and movement were criticized by Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin, ex-CNN reporter Don Lemon, and MSNBC political analyst Eddie Claude Jr.
At a 92NY Center for Culture & Arts event on Dec. 15, Rubin claimed that Trump supporters were illiterate while discussing the 2024 election with anti-Trump critic George Conway.
"Why do people often ask me why the media is so mamsy-pamsey? There are two explanations, Rubin said. Firstly, they believe that if they shift slightly to the right, MAGA readers would subscribe to The Washington Post, despite the contradiction in terms. However, nothing The Washington Post can do would convince those people to subscribe. Nonetheless, I believe they are somewhere within the media landscape."
In a Post column published on December 23, Rubin advised against seeking common ground with Trump allies and supporters.
During an episode of The Don Lemon Show, Lemon referred to Trump supporters as "dumb f---ing idiots" and made fun of their "stupid MAGA brain."
"You're so stupid and you deserve it," he said. "Yes, I am gloating over your stupidity."
He claimed that MAGA supporters were members of a cult and inquired, "To what extent are you unintelligent?"
On Monday, MSNBC's Claude asserted that hatred, selfishness, and greed were integral components of Trump's movement.
The modern Republican Party is composed of three elements: corporatists, libertarians, and nativists, as claimed by Claude. The party's leader, Elon Musk, embodies the greed and self-interest that drives these elements, while also expressing right-wing populism in the form of xenophobia, nativism, and hatred.
On her MSNBC show on Monday, Nicolle Wallace strongly agreed with Claude and argued that comprehending Trumpism was crucial to defeating it.
Claude stated that the collision of greed and hatred is the essence of Trumpism and MAGAism, which has always been selfish and hateful, and is now fully visible.
In a Zoom call for Vice President Kamala Harris in late October, President Biden referred to Trump supporters as garbage, but the White House and the president attempted to retract the statement.
