Trump's TikTok reversal shows that we are on the brink of a 21st-century fascist regime, warns AOC.
TikTok reportedly surrendered to the president-elect, according to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
On Sunday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., stated that the day before President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration marked the beginning of an "authoritarian" regime.
TikTok resumed U.S. services after a 12-hour lockout, as a result of President Trump's efforts, and Ocasio-Cortez shared her thoughts on the matter through a series of videos on her Instagram story.
Ocasio-Cortez criticized this statement, arguing it indicated TikTok's surrender to right-wing forces.
"Ocasio-Cortez stated that Donald Trump is not currently the president, and as a private citizen, he lacks access to presidential powers and the ability to perform any presidential duties. She emphasized that TikTok's decision to name Trump in the notification was a deliberate choice, indicating that they were privately collaborating with him and the Trump administration."
TikTok is being used as a propaganda tool by the right, just like every other mass social media platform in the United States has been taken over by the right wing. This means that all social media platforms in the US are being used for propaganda purposes by the right.
Ocasio-Cortez pointed out that Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter and Mark Zuckerberg's decision to remove third-party fact-checkers are examples of right-wing control. Additionally, she stated that TikTok is also following suit with other sites that have manipulated their algorithms to promote right-wing content.
"TikTok has announced that they will use their push notification system to promote Donald Trump to their 170 million American users, according to Ocasio-Cortez. This is an explicit agreement, and if I were to bet, they are likely making a deal with Trump to make additional changes to their algorithm."
Her prediction was that TikTok's actions would pave the way for Republican control over the media.
Ocasio-Cortez stated that the upcoming administration is authoritarian, and this is what 21st century fascism is beginning to resemble.
"She stated, "This is a time of experimentation. While many will continue to use platforms, I also see value in exploring places where individuals have more ownership and cultivate their audiences.""
In April, President Biden signed a bill that required ByteDance to divest from TikTok within nine months or face a ban in the U.S.
The bill was passed with broad bipartisan support, with 352 votes in favor and 65 against in the House of Representatives. However, 60 Democrats, including Ocasio-Cortez, voted against the bill.
