Trump proposes annexing Canada, and Ontario premier responds: "No way, it's not for sale."
Ford calls for a trade deal between the US and Canada.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford stated that Canada is "not for sale" in response to President-elect Donald Trump's comments about the country possibly being part of the United States.
"Ford stated on "Jesse Watters Primetime" that he loves the U.S. and Americans, and he understands why President-elect Trump is a real estate tycoon who has made billions. However, he added that the property is not for sale, as it is a simple fact."
During a news conference at Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday afternoon, Trump repeated his idea of Canada becoming the "51st state" under U.S. control.
"Trump stated, "If Canada and the United States were to remove the artificially drawn line, it would greatly benefit national security.""
Ford stated that a "great trade deal" between Canada and the U.S. would allow them to cooperate and address the China "issue" together.
The issue lies with China. They are importing inexpensive parts into Mexico, which then adds a 'made in Mexico' label and sends it northward through the US and Canada, resulting in the loss of American and Canadian jobs.
"As Canadians, we are just as proud as Americans. If we unite and strike a successful trade deal, there's nothing that can stand in our way."
Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister who recently announced his resignation, retorted at the 47th president's comments, stating that there is no possibility of Canada joining the U.S.
One of Canada's largest trading partners is the U.S., with Mexico and China coming in second and third, respectively.
