Trump assassination attempt condemned by Bill Maher, who dubs the president the "luckiest motherf---er" ever.
According to Maher, this will work for him; Biden struggles in debates, and a bullet cannot stop Trump.
Bill Maher criticized the assassination attempt on Trump, expressing concern about the harm it could do to progressives and labeling Trump as the "luckiest motherf---er" in history.
"I'm glad he's okay," he said in Minneapolis at a stand-up special, reacting shortly after the stunning events. "Trump, I've got to say this, the luckiest motherf---er that has ever walked the face of the earth. And again, I'm happy he's okay. I mean, 2016, that has got to be the luckiest - he lost the popular vote by a lot, he just pulled an inside straight."
Maher, a critic of the president who hosts "Real Time" on HBO, stated that he "unequivocally condemns" the shooting, anticipating that some of Trump's opponents would make jokes about it due to their intense dislike of him.
"I did not say that," Maher replied, to the cheers of his audience.
On Saturday evening, a would-be assassin shot Trump in the ear while he was speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The shooter killed one attendee and critically injured two others before being killed by law enforcement. Trump waved defiantly to his supporters as he was hustled off the stage by Secret Service, yelling, "Fight!"
Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Pennsylvania, was identified as the shooter. Despite being a registered Republican, he only voted in the Nov. 8, 2022, state election due to his age. Records indicate that he made a $15 donation to Progressive Turnout Project, a Chicago-based political action committee that supports Democrat candidates and advocates for "key Democratic constituencies: young people, minorities, and low-income people."
Trump's departure from the stage with a fist in the air and blood on his face could signal the end of the 2024 election, but anything could still transpire.
"MAGA Nation finally has its full martyr," he said.
Despite concerns about his mental acuity and ability to beat Trump, President Biden has refused to step down from the nomination, making it unclear who Democrats will put up as their nominee.
Maher imitated Trump's fist-waving while adding that "idiot conspiracy theorists" would push false flag notions.
"He gets grazed while the other guy gets shot. That's just like Trump," he said, prompting some audience members to groan.
Maher distinguishes himself among political liberals on the late-night circuit by advocating for understanding Trump supporters and criticizing the excesses of the left, earning him progressive critics.
Maher fretted the shooting had done immense damage to the political left.
""Liberals don't solve it that way," he said, after losing a lot of moral high ground in the "you're the violent people" debate."
In 2017, a Bernie Sanders supporter opened fire at a Congressional baseball game practice in Alexandria, Va., critically injuring Rep. Steve Scalise and several others.
The Heritage Foundation's "Project 2025" has garnered significant media attention in recent weeks, with many liberal critics labeling it a terrifying plan for an authoritarian takeover.
The president of the conservative think tank, Kevin Roberts, stated in a podcast earlier this month that the next "American Revolution" will be bloodless if the left permits it to happen.
"This violence does not occur in a vacuum, as Maher stated."
Maher added he could already see the memes coming.
"This will work for him," he said. "Biden can't handle a debate, and a bullet can't stop Trump!"
On Saturday evening, Trump received a call from Biden condemning the shooting, with many politicians expressing their well-wishes.
