Top Democrat confronted by NBC News host about being more transparent about Biden.
Jeffries evaded the question about whether Biden should have been more open about his ability to serve as president.
During an interview on Sunday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., was confronted with an old clip of himself declaring President Biden as the best candidate to run against President-elect Donald Trump.
How do you respond to Americans who think you and other leading Democrats deceived them? NBC's Kristen Welker posed this question to Jeffries after playing him a clip from February 2024 on "The View" where he stated that Biden was the "definitely the strongest candidate" to run against the now-president elect.
At the time, Jeffries supported Joe Biden as the incumbent president and candidate, believing it was the right decision based on the president's decision to run.
Jeffries stated that he aimed to focus on the future and delivering for Americans following Trump's victory, instead of dwelling on the past.
Did you feel a responsibility to disclose what you witnessed behind closed doors regarding President Biden?
Jeffries stated that he saw a president who was diligently working to achieve his goals of improving infrastructure, reducing the cost of life-saving prescription drugs, and bringing back domestic manufacturing jobs to the United States.
NBC News host confronted Sen. Chuck Schumer with a clip of himself dismissing concerns about Biden's mental acuity as "right-wing propaganda."
In February 2024, Schumer declared that his mental acuity is great and that all the right-wing propaganda claiming it has declined is incorrect.
Schumer stated that Americans who believe they were deceived by top Democrats should examine President Biden's impressive record. He pointed out that the legislation passed under his leadership, which includes the appointment of 235 judges, is one of the most significant since the Great Society, and Biden is a patriot.
Schumer was asked by Welker if he believed Biden could have served another term.
Schumer replied, "I won't speculate. His record is exceptional, and he'll be remembered as an outstanding president in history."
