The wife of the American held hostage in Afghanistan recounts her 'incredibly crushing' phone call with Biden after a two-year wait.
Anna Corbett emphasized the "stunning" difference in handling her husband's case with Biden versus Trump.
The woman whose husband has been held hostage in Afghanistan since 2022 shared the "devastating" details of her long-awaited phone call with President Biden, as he prepares to cement his foreign policy legacy before leaving office.
Anna Corbett, whose husband Ryan is being held by the Taliban, was able to speak with the president on the phone after pleading for a meeting since his detainment began, on Sunday.
The phone call did not provide the results she desperately sought.
On "Fox & Friends," Monday, Corbett stated that he was very kind and empathetic, but what he heard him say was that he was not bringing Ryan home, which was devastating because he had been advocating fiercely on Ryan's behalf, on his family's behalf. Ryan kept missing milestones.
It's incredibly crushing to our family that, after all this effort, there is a deal on the table, there is a way to bring Ryan home, but it's not being taken.
On Sunday, the White House confirmed that Biden had spoken with the families of Corbett, Glezmann, and Habibi, all of whom have been unjustly held by the Taliban in Afghanistan since 2022.
Ryan was captured by the Taliban in Afghanistan in August 2022, a year after the U.S. left the country, and since his wrongful detainment began, Corbett has been fighting for his safe release.
"It's very difficult because his living conditions are not suitable," she said. "He is deteriorating physically. He informed me on a call that I wouldn't recognize him."
Corbett decided to intensify her advocacy by traveling to Mar-a-Lago to attract President-elect Trump's attention to her husband's case.
"Corbett stated that he has been informed by multiple sources that President Trump is deeply concerned about our family's well-being, as he is aware of our location and the circumstances we are facing."
Corbett successfully met with incoming National Security Adviser Mike Waltz over the weekend to discuss Ryan's situation.
"The meeting with Jake Sullivan, the current national security adviser, took 16 months to schedule, and it was a mind-blowing experience. This demonstrates President Trump's concern for our family and his desire to prioritize our interests. Despite his tough reputation, he is committed to making deals."
She continued, "I am extremely encouraged, and the contrast of my experience is just mind-blowing right now."
This week, reports emerged that the Biden administration was in talks with the Taliban to trade three American citizens detained in Afghanistan for a Guantanamo Bay prisoner who was said to have been a close friend of Usama bin Laden.
The Taliban official stated to The Guardian that the deal appeared to have stalled and the group would prefer to wait until the Trump administration arrived to negotiate.
Despite her previous setbacks, Corbett remained hopeful that the Trump administration would bring Ryan home.
"Corbett stated that he believes with absolute certainty that they will return Ryan home. Although the specifics are unclear, this is a complex issue, and he is not an expert in any of it. However, it is evident that the incoming administration values bringing U.S. citizens back to their country and caring for Ryan and George, who are also being held with him, and who have done nothing wrong."
On Sunday, Corbett's husband expressed his frustration about the length of his detention during their conversation.
"She said that he wants to come home and be with his family. He's an amazing dad, and he said, 'I feel bad for all that you're having to do for me.' Of course, she will do everything she can. She's a mom, and this is what moms do. She wants her children to have their dad back to be part of their lives."
