The View' hosts argue over reasons for Harris defeat: 'What is wrong with America?
Sunny Hostin accused the Democratic Party of poor campaigning rather than placing blame on America for choosing Trump.
On Friday, the co-hosts of ABC's "The View" engaged in a heated discussion about why Vice President Kamala Harris lost to President-elect Donald Trump in the recent election.
Alyssa Farah Griffin accused the Democratic Party of failing to communicate effectively with working and middle-class voters, while Sunny Hostin countered that Americans themselves are to blame for embracing bigotry.
In the aftermath of Trump's Electoral College victory and potential popular vote win, Hostin posed the question, "What is actually wrong with America?"
Griffin accused the Democratic Party of failing to comprehend that the key swing voter in this election was the individual concerned about economic survival.
Griffin stated that the reality was that everyone was wondering who would decide the election, with many believing it was women and abortion. However, it was actually the people in the suburbs who voted based on their dislike of Donald Trump's personality and how he spoke, despite their economic lives being better under his presidency.
Trump gained support among young people and suburban women, who typically vote Democrat, due to their financial concerns.
"I hope the Democrats take time for self-reflection. Each time Joe Biden boasted about the economy, another struggling voter chose Donald Trump," she concluded.
Griffin's point was rejected by Hostin, who then presented a list of Trump's alleged wrongdoings to demonstrate how unbalanced she thinks his supporters are.
"What is wrong with our country that the Republican Party would support a candidate who is an insurrectionist, election denier, a twice-impeached, 34-time convicted felon, someone accused of alleged sexual misconduct by 26 women, and found liable for sexual abuse?"
She continued, 'What is wrong with this country that they would opt for a message of division, bigotry, discrimination, and sexism instead of a message of unity, for the people, by the people, and of the people?'
Hostin repeated her question, "Well then what’s wrong with America?" after Griffin stated that Trump "won the popular vote."
In the discussion, Hostin's message was accused of being "condescending" by co-host Sara Haines.
"Haines replied, "Yes, that's right. The way the left communicates with its voters is truly joyful and inclusive.""
Haines countered, "No, the message conveyed is that being uneducated, ignorant, and critical of America is unacceptable."
Hostin tripled down, "What is wrong with America?"
Haines stated, "I don't blame Joe Biden or Kamala Harris. The issue lies with the messaging within the Democratic Party." Hostin interjected, "Do you blame the Republican Party at all?"
"Obviously, anyone has a problem with Donald Trump. The bigger question is, 'Yes, Sunny, why did they vote for him?"
Hostin and Haines debated the importance of introspection after the 2020 presidential election. While Hostin suggested that both sides needed to reflect on their actions, Haines argued that only those who voted for Kamala Harris should be introspective and consider what didn't resonate with voters.
On the day after the election, more than half of the show's hosts wore black in mourning over Harris' defeat, despite openly supporting her during the campaign.
