'The View' discusses Biden's cordial encounter with Trump following intense campaign discourse.
Trump was consistently denounced as a danger to democracy by Biden and Harris.
On Thursday, "The View" co-hosts discussed President Biden's return to Donald Trump, following a contentious campaign that centered on the president-elect as a threat to democracy.
"Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former Trump aide who voted for Harris, said that she understands why many Americans did not heed warnings about Donald Trump because they view the current political climate as a spectacle similar to WWE, where everything is staged and ultimately ends in a handshake. She believes that some members of the public may have questioned the sincerity of Trump's statements about her concerns, wondering if he was simply using them to win or scare people about Trump."
On Wednesday, Trump and Biden had a meeting at the White House to discuss the transition to Trump's presidency. They shook hands, exchanged pleasantries, and spoke for several hours. A photo of the two was also taken outside.
"Sara Haines, co-host of "The View," stated that the act of showing up, shaking hands, and proving democracy's existence is what is expected of individuals. She added that the conversation about normalizing this behavior has passed, and it is now time to move forward."
She maintained that Trump poses a threat to democracy, while Griffin acknowledged that she was presenting a different viewpoint.
"Sunny Hostin, a co-host, stated that she saw the situation from a different perspective because she did not like the appearance of a convicted felon sitting in the White House near a fireplace. She agreed with Biden's statement that he was a convicted felon and had the morals of an alley cat."
Biden was commended as a "statesman" by Hostin, who highlighted his leadership as an inspiration for the president-elect.
"It’s not going to work," Hostin added.
During his show, "The Breakfast Club," Charlamagne tha God questioned the Trump visit and pondered about the disappearance of the "threat to democracy" discussion.
He said, 'I'm just trying to figure out how to go from "He's an existential threat to democracy" to "Welcome back"?'
