The Trump campaign responds to '60 Minutes' defense of Kamala Harris editing: "Not a denial."
The unedited transcript of Harris' interview on '60 Minutes' has not been made public.
The Trump campaign issued a harsh statement against "60 Minutes" after the show admitted to enhancing Vice President Kamala Harris's interview, urging the CBS program to release the full transcript.
"60 Minutes has admitted to editing a different response from Kamala Harris's answer to make her sound less incoherent than she actually was. Their statement is not a denial, but an admission that they did exactly what they were accused of. This confirms how biased 60 Minutes is and how right President Trump was to decline their invitation to be subjected to their fake news. Release the transcript!"
Since the controversy started, CBS News has refused to release the transcript or unedited footage, despite requests.
CBS issued a statement on Sunday evening, addressing the backlash that had been mounting for weeks following the "60 Minutes" interview with the Democratic nominee. The show denied former President Trump's claims that the show had misled its audience by airing two different answers to the same question.
"Former President Donald Trump is claiming that 60 Minutes manipulated our Oct. 7 interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, which is untrue," the statement stated.
"Our interview with 'Face the Nation' featured a longer excerpt of her answer than what was shown on 60 Minutes. Although the same question and answer were used, a different portion of her response was shown. When editing interviews, we aim to be clear, accurate, and on point. The shorter section on 60 Minutes allowed for other topics to be covered in a 21-minute segment."
The Trump campaign denied having formally accepted an invitation for an interview with "60 Minutes," despite the statement that Trump had pulled out of the interview and the vice president participated.
"We remain open to inviting former President Trump to discuss the issues facing the nation and the Harris interview on 60 Minutes."
Kamala Harris' editing decision on '60 Minutes' has sparked controversy, and the show has a history of liberal controversies.
Earlier this month, CBS News aired two different answers to the same question in its "60 Minutes" interview with Harris.
Conservatives on social media initially mocked Harris when footage of her offering a lengthy "word salad" was aired by CBS' "Face the Nation" and on social media to promote the "60 Minutes" sit-down, when Bill Whitaker asked why it seemed like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wasn't listening to the U.S.
The shorter version of Vice President Harris's answer to the same question was shown on "60 Minutes" instead of her lengthy response.
Some believe that CBS News used a more flattering clip of Harris answering the question after backlash to the initial version, which has since faced criticism.
