The presidential race coverage between Trump and Harris is reportedly the most negative in history, with 85% of the coverage being negative towards Trump.

A recent study found that the coverage on ABC, CBS, and NBC News of the presidential race between former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris has been the most "unbalanced in history" one week before the election.

Since July, Harris has received 78% positive coverage on broadcast evening news, while Trump has been the subject of 85% negative coverage on the same networks, according to an analysis from the Media Research Center (MRC) published Monday.

The coverage difference between the two candidates is significantly greater than in 2016, when both Trump and Clinton received mostly negative coverage, with 91% negative for Trump and 79% negative for Clinton, according to MRC analysts.

The study reveals that the difference in coverage between Trump and Harris is greater than in 2020, with Biden receiving 66% positive coverage and Trump receiving 92% negative coverage.

According to MRC, ABC, CBS, and NBC have devoted over 200 minutes of airtime, mostly negative, to controversies surrounding Trump, while largely overlooking or ignoring controversies related to Harris, including plagiarism accusations and allegations about her husband, Doug Emhoff.

MRC reports that instead of providing balanced coverage, Harris's media coverage has been filled with positive quotes from her supporters, creating a positive "vibe" for the Democrat, while network reporters criticize Trump.

Over 600 segments about the presidential race were analyzed by analysts from ABC, CBS, and NBC between July 29 and October 25, when President Biden suspended his campaign.

The MRC analysts discovered that after weeks of positive coverage for Harris as the Democratic nominee, the three networks shifted their tone following the September debate between Harris and Trump.

The report states that the networks redirected their focus from Harris to Trump, allocating a substantial amount of airtime to him.

The study found that from July 21 to September 10, Harris and Trump received nearly the same amount of network evening news coverage, with 353 minutes for Harris and 355 minutes for Trump. However, since then, TV has focused nearly twice as much attention on Trump as Harris, with 398 minutes for the former President and just 230 minutes for the Vice President.

According to MRC, the networks' focus on Trump controversies led to the additional airtime for Trump, which was not intended as a gift. Instead, it provided opportunities for negative news coverage.

Since July 21, 753 minutes of evening news have been devoted to Trump's personal controversies, while only 28 minutes of Harris's airtime were spent on similar topics.

MRC reported that the networks frequently mentioned January 6 and Trump's assertion that the 2020 election was fraudulent while branding him as a "threat to democracy."

MRC analysts discovered that during the fourteen weeks of evening news coverage, GOP criticisms of Harris's liberal views received only 5 minutes and 22 seconds of airtime, which is less than one-sixth of the time spent on the claim that Trump is a fascist. None of this coverage came from network reporters or nonpartisan sources.

The report states that the media coverage of the past three months is more lopsided than any presidential election in the modern media age when all the coverage is added up.

"If Donald Trump wins the election next week, the media's efforts to discredit him will have been in vain, resulting only in a decline in their own credibility."

The Gallup study showed that trust in the media remains low, with only 31% of respondents expressing a "great deal" or "fair amount" of faith in the media to report news properly. The MRC findings will be released shortly after this revelation.

In the third year in a row, more U.S. adults lack complete trust in the media (36%) than have confidence in it, while 33% of Americans express only "not very much" trust.
