The 'Ketchup Challenge' is the newest TikTok trend that puts relationships to the test.
A new TikTok trend challenges men to correctly clean up condiment spills.
Women are showcasing their partner's worthiness on TikTok's latest trend by taking the pulse of their relationships online.
The "Ketchup Challenge" is a game where women place a dollop of ketchup on a kitchen surface and ask their partners to clean it up. This task has become popular online, as women are discovering that their male partners may not be as skilled at cleaning up messes as they assumed.
The Ketchup Theory originated from a video featuring hot sauce that was posted online by TikTok user Katherine on Dec. 26, 2023. Her fiancé's attempt to clean up the mess with only a paper towel garnered a strong reaction online.
Katherine's fiancé smears hot sauce all over the white counter, with no end in sight, and one user commented, "Weaponized incompetence... look it up."
You can't complain later if you marry this person.
Now, other women are joyfully sharing their results as their loved ones pass the test by wiping up the ketchup with cleaning spray.
Jareen Imam, a TikToker, stated in a video that if there is spilled ketchup on the counter and your boyfriend doesn't know how to clean it up, is he dumb or are you a jerk for intentionally making a mess and trying to see how he can fix it.
"The videos are amusing, with some guys carelessly spreading ketchup on furniture, while other men are competent and likely weary of the endless entertainment content."
Jules' TikTok video received praise from viewers as she captured her partner effectively cleaning up the ketchup spill by wiping it with a paper towel and spraying the residue with cleaning solution. Jules smiled at the camera as her boyfriend successfully passed the test.
One user remarked, "This appears to be the first individual I've observed utilizing spray and wipe following the removal of sauce."
Over 209 million views on TikTok have been garnered by the hashtag #ketchupchallenge, featuring videos of women making fun of men's inability to handle messy situations.
"Iman argued that domestic labor is the main point of contention in the trend, stating that one must possess knowledge and common sense to clean up ketchup without smearing it onto the counter."
Iman stated that she believes the test does not accurately measure the worth of a significant other, but rather encourages discussions about household cleanliness.
Social media users are using viral trends to test their relationships, as women are flocking to online spaces to showcase their partner's abilities or shortcomings. The lighthearted fun usually ends in smiles, with couples sharing the last laugh.
