The delay of Biden's DNC primetime speech is perceived as a further disrespect to the sitting president: "Humiliation ritual"
Nate Silver: Delaying Biden's speech was aimed at reducing his public profile.
Some political commentators criticized the scheduling of President Biden's speech, which was delayed past primetime on Monday, as disrespectful to the president who had already been removed from the 2024 ticket.
Biden's speech, originally slated for 10:30 p.m. (ET), began an hour late and ended after midnight.
"I'm calling it quits - I can't keep going on like this, we all have responsibilities and families," former "View" co-host Meghan McCain wrote on X Monday. "Good luck to our 81-year-old President delivering his speech at this hour. Whatever the producers did to him and allowed the speech to go on for so long is unacceptable and disrespectful to Biden."
"Clay Travis wrote before Biden's speech that Democrats had removed him from the presidential race and were not allowing him to speak until after 11 pm eastern on the first night of the convention, which he called 'diabolical' and 'nasty'."
On Monday, GOP staffer Abigail Jackson wrote that it was fitting that the DNC excluded Biden from Primetime, as they had also excluded him from the race.
Biden refused to exit the race despite his poor performance in the June debate, but after weeks of pressure from Pelosi and others, he eventually dropped out on July 21 and endorsed Harris, who went on to secure the nomination and energize Democrats.
Some commentators speculated about the political motivations behind delaying Biden's speech from the evening news.
"Why would Democrats showcase Joe Biden in primetime if they don't have to?" National Review's Rich Lowry wrote. "Kamala Harris needs space from him, not to be associated with him. Moreover, after taking the nomination from him, what's the point of pushing his speech into prime time?"
One conservative account stated that this is the ultimate humiliation ritual, as Biden was "strong armed" off the ballot.
Nate Silver, a pollster, stated that the scheduling delays for Biden's speech were intentional.
Silver wrote that the media is heavily focused on the East Coast and it's difficult to believe that the prolonged DNC tonight is for any reason other than diminishing Biden's visibility.
Mark Knoller, a former CBS White House correspondent, stated that Biden was "removed."
Knoller wrote that they removed the nomination from him and subsequently kicked him out of prime time.
The DNC spokesperson stated that the delays in Monday's program were due to too much applause, despite the liberal media's promotion of it as a celebration of the president. The White House did not respond to a request for comment from Planet Chronicle Digital.
"To ensure a direct address from President Biden to the American people, we had to skip certain parts of our program due to the disruptive applause during the speeches. We are proud of the energetic atmosphere in our convention hall and the diverse coalition supporting the Harris-Walz ticket, which has been showcased throughout the week both on and off the stage."
Planet Chronicle' Anders Hagstrom contributed to this report.
