A Chicago-based comedian gained notoriety for roasting a Biden administration staffer in a viral video, and later spoke out about the industry's resurgence.

According to Josh Ocean Thomas, who spoke to Planet Chronicle Digital, comedy is essential for society. He believes that everyone needs it and that if we only focus on negative things, we will end up in a negative place. Therefore, he thinks it's great to have comedy and that it's making a comeback.

In a recent show, Thomas, known for his crowd work, inquired about Nick's profession, who disclosed that he worked for the Biden administration.

Is your job in the Biden administration to wake him up, Thomas joked?

""

What's your vibe, Thomas asked after further joking with the staffer about his job within the administration, implying that he might be ready to be unemployed.

After the show, Thomas encountered the staffer and he was gracious about the joke.

"Everyone makes fun of Joe Biden, Trump, and everything. It's the world we're in right now and this is what we need. We just need to do more of that."

Thomas clarified that he is not a "political comedian" but rather draws inspiration from real-life experiences and his own narrative to create his humor.

My jokes revolve around my life experiences, some of which are fabricated, but others are based on things I would do or say. My stand-up comedy is all about me and not about politics or political ideologies. It's not about the government, the right, the left, or any other political parties.

Since he was 13, the Chicago-based comedian has had a passion for comedy and would often perform at his "first comedy club" in his father's living room for family, friends, and neighbors.

"If they think that comedian got out of bed that morning and said, 'I'm going to go on stage tonight and I'm going to hurt people's feelings and I'm going to go to hurt people,' that is crazy." - Josh Ocean Thomas

The 23-year-old began his stand-up career a decade ago, during the COVID-19 pandemic, and now hosts regular shows at the Laugh Factory comedy club in Chicago.

Since the start of his career, Thomas has witnessed the resurgence of the comedy industry as clubs reopen and there is a growing demand for laughter.

"I started comedy when there wasn't a club open, which was the worst time because obviously they couldn't be open if they wanted to. There was a virus going around, but it's when we needed them the most," he said.

Comedy making a comeback because people are sick of Biden: Karith Foster

Despite cancel culture posing a threat to comedy, most individuals can freely express themselves anywhere they want, according to comedian Karith Foster on "Fox & Friends" last week.

"According to Foster, comedy is experiencing a resurgence because it is evident that people are disillusioned with the current state of affairs. The repetitive nature of life, with the same individuals and decisions being made in major elections, has caused people to become exhausted."

Despite what cancel culture suggests, comedians do not make jokes with "malicious intent" or hate.

"If anyone witnesses a comedian performing on stage and making a statement that could harm someone's feelings, they would think that the comedian had woken up that morning with the intention of causing harm. However, Thomas clarified that every comedian he knows is solely focused on making people laugh and that there is no malicious intent behind their performances."

According to Foster, true comedians approach their work with love and a genuine appreciation for humanity. This allows them to make jokes and engage in playful banter without resorting to hate or cruelty. In fact, if a joke were truly offensive, it wouldn't be funny at all.

A stand-up star, Thomas, was optimistic about the future of both comedy and society.

"As a society, there is always room for improvement. While we may never achieve perfection, I believe we are moving in the right direction. Comedy has the power to bring joy and happiness to people, and it is crucial that we recognize its importance. I am proud to be a part of delivering this message."
