'The co-host of 'The View' remarks that the mockery of the UnitedHealthcare CEO's murder reflects the current mood of the public.'
Unfortunately, the healthcare system's anger is translating to this father, according to Sunny Hostin.
On Friday, a co-host of ABC's "The View" proposed that the jokes about the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson reflect Americans' dissatisfaction with the healthcare system.
After the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan on Wednesday, some left-wing journalists and social media users expressed joyful, derisive or sarcastic responses to his death.
Taylor Lorenz, a former Washington Post reporter, wrote a post titled "Why 'we' want insurance executives dead," further emphasizing her support for Thompson's murder through her numerous social media posts.
The co-hosts of "The View" were taken aback by the murder, but others believed their reactions were predictable.
Sunny Hostin, a co-host on the show, stated that what has surprised her the most is the anger being directed towards the man who was murdered, despite him being a father and a husband.
"I was scrolling through social media comments and tried to avoid it, but some of the comments were "thoughts and deductibles to the family." One comment read, "Unfortunately, my condolences are out of network." This reflects how people feel about their healthcare."
Thompson became the target of Americans' anger about the healthcare system, as she discussed it further.
Hostin stated that while it is not uncommon for a company of this size to make $10 million a year, United Healthcare, specifically, is the largest company responsible for Medicare programs for seniors over 65.
"Our country lacks universal healthcare, and we do not adequately care for our elderly. This has resulted in financial strain for many individuals, and there is widespread anger towards the healthcare system. Unfortunately, this frustration has manifested in the form of an unhappy father."
Alyssa Farah Griffin, a co-host, stated that she had observed some notable individuals on the far-left cheering for the murder, but she declined to amplify their language.
"To effect change in this country, it is a democracy. Organize, activate, get out and talk to people, talk to your congressman. Violence is never the answer and to single out one individual because you have an issue with a company or entire industry that has been fraught for decades."
"Joy Behar advised against voting for Republicans, stating that their goal is to overthrow Obamacare."
Ana Navarro mentioned an Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield policy change that would have altered its billing standards for anesthesia treatment, resulting in not covering those services beyond a specific time limit for a particular operation, affecting both the elderly and children.
She stated that there is a lot of frustration in the country and we need to have a national conversation about it.
Following the news of Thompson's murder, Lorenz posted on Bluesky, "People wonder why we want these executives dead," along with an article about Blue Cross Blue Shield's anesthesia policy.
Lorenz posted images of Blue Cross Blue Shield CEO Kim Keck and reposted others' calls for health insurance executives to be targeted.
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield reversed its decision to implement an anesthesia policy following criticism.
