The actor Zachary Levi has accused the leadership of being "incredibly poor" and has suggested "criminal negligence" in relation to the LA wildfires.
Watching the catastrophic wildfires is like being in a 'post-apocalyptic war film'.
Zachary Levi, an actor and longtime Los Angeles resident, strongly criticized the state of California as it battles devastating wildfires, calling on leaders to be held accountable and describing the situation as "very personal" to him.
""Jesse Watters Primetime" was told by a visibly shaken Levi on Wednesday night that the fire in Los Angeles is the most devastating in history. Levi, whose family is from Ventura, California, spent most of his life there before moving to L.A. 15 years ago."
He compared the devastating wildfires on the news to "watching a post-apocalyptic war film."
Gavin Newsom, Karen Bass, and California's leadership should be held responsible, according to Levi's statement of why he believes this.
Gavin Newsom's leadership as governor or lieutenant governor for over a decade has resulted in some of the worst fires in California's history. This is a clear indication of poor management and leadership, and it could be considered criminally negligent. Despite knowing that the biggest problem in California is wildfires, Newsom has not taken adequate measures to prevent or mitigate them. Additionally, the mudslides that follow these fires are also a result of Newsom's poor leadership.
"When firefighter budgets are being cut, and they are intentionally not doing the work that could be done to avoid problems or effectively serve them when they occur, they are essentially doing worse than nothing."
"What are they doing? It's almost criminally intentional," Levi questioned.
"I don't understand why they are doing or not doing the things they are doing, but they must be held accountable. This is not good leadership," he stated.
While Los Angeles is facing devastating fires and budget cuts to the LA Fire Department, Mayor Karen Bass has been criticized for traveling to Ghana.
Gov. Gavin Newsom's character was criticized by the "Shazaam!" star, who mentioned the French Laundry incident where Newsom dined with friends in violation of his state's COVID-19 protocols.
"During the pandemic, when people were being restricted for gathering together, this man was at French Laundry having dinner with his friends. This raises questions about his character and his lack of effort to help the people of California. Levi believes that there should be accountability held to the leadership not only in California but also at the national level."
Levi considers fire insurance the "most unethical" aspect of the situation.
"Did you know that around 70% of insured homeowners in Southern California who previously had fire insurance have had it taken away? The insurance company has stated that they will no longer offer fire insurance. What do they need to do in flood insurance and fire insurance? This is a fire hazard. Of course, that's the insurance they need and want. However, just months ago, this was stripped from people. This is not okay in any way, shape or form."
"We need to send as much love, light, and support as we can to everyone affected by the fires in Southern California," Levi urged.
