Texas vows to track down violent gang that entered US through Biden's border policies: "We will find them"
Gov. Greg Abbott outlines plans to shut down Tren de Aragua's operations.
The Biden administration's decision to allow mass numbers of migrants into the country has led to Texas taking action against the dangerous Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, which is operating in the U.S.
Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas revealed that they are building a database of the background of individuals entering the state from Venezuela, starting from scratch, according to a statement made on "America's Newsroom" on Tuesday.
"We examine tattoos and other characteristics to identify TdA members, which helps us locate and apprehend them more effectively."
The gang, which is believed to have originated in Venezuelan prisons, has gained notoriety in the U.S. this year due to several high-profile crimes linked to the gang. Many believe that the gang members arrived in the U.S. by crossing the southern border during the recent surge in migration.
Abbott will label the gang as a foreign terrorist organization and criticize the Biden administration for permitting a significant influx of Venezuelans into the US.
Nearly 530,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela were paroled into the U.S. as part of the Biden administration's mass parole program, according to statistics released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on Monday.
"Abbott declared on Monday that the TdA will face the full weight of the government. By classifying TdA as a foreign terrorist organization, Texas will utilize the courts to halt their operations, seize their property through civil asset forfeiture, and impose enhanced criminal penalties to ensure they remain incarcerated for extended periods."
The state will have more aggressive tools to go after gangs with Abbott's declaration.
"Our anti-gang units, comprising nine units across Texas, collaborate at the federal, state, and local levels to combat gangs. Yesterday, I announced that TdA is the primary target of our anti-gang partners' efforts."
"We must stop this treacherous gang in their tracks in the United States of America," he continued. "We will find them and put them behind bars to make sure that Texas is hostile territory to them."
The governor stated that he has recently enacted legislation aimed at regulating activity TdA.
He stated that if we obtain them, they will be required to serve a minimum of 10 years in prison.
Recently, border officials informed Fox that they are prioritizing the gang as a target, while officials in Dallas reported seeing gang activity in the north Dallas area linked to TdA. The gang gained notoriety due to reports of their takeover of apartment buildings in Aurora, Colorado.
In July, TdA members were given permission to attack law enforcement in Denver, as reported by Planet Chronicle Digital. The Biden administration designated the group a "significant transnational criminal organization" in July and offered a reward of up to $12 million for information leading to the arrest of three of its leaders.
The DHS Inspector General's recent report revealed that ICE lacks the resources to monitor and remove the additional population granted under the Biden administration's programs, as no agency has been tracking parole expiration.
Abbott announced the formation of strike teams to increase resources in areas where gang members are believed to be operating, following the arrest of over 100 gang members during a riot at the U.S.-Mexico border near El Paso earlier this year.
The report was contributed to by Adam Shaw, Bill Melugin, and Greg Wehner of Planet Chronicle.
