Tajikistan Olympian declines to shake hands with Israeli athlete, shouts "Allah Akbar" during Judo match.
'Karma can be cruel'
An Israeli competitor at the Paris Olympics was refused a handshake by a Judo competitor after the match, and was hit with immediate karma, according to X users.
On Sunday, Tajikistan's Judoka Nurali Emomali refused to shake hands with his Israeli opponent, Tohar Butbul, after their match in the round of 16. Despite winning the match, Emomali opted to leave the mat without the traditional post-match handshake.
X users noted that he declared "Allahu Akbar" and displayed the "Finger of Tawheed" symbol, symbolizing the Islamic belief that "There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His prophet," before exiting the mat.
Emomali's match against Japanese Olympian Hifumi Abe ended in a brutal fashion, with Abe slamming Emomali to the ground. Despite reaching out his left arm towards the ground, the force of the fall and Abe's weight caused Emomali's arm to bend and dislocate.
Olympic staff members were required to transport Emomali because of the seriousness of his injury.
Instant karma was experienced by the bad sportsman who refused to shake hands with his opponent in the previous match, as social media users deemed it ungracious.
According to Michael Dickinson, the executive director of StandWithUs, Nurali Emomali from Tajikistan, who is a bad sport, refused to shake hands with Israeli judo competitor Baruch Shmailov and shouted "Allah Akbar." As a result, Emomali suffered a dislocated shoulder and cried on the mat. This incident was at an Olympic level.
Emily Schrader, a pro-Israel influencer, stated that "Karma is a b---h."
Butbul, an Israeli judoka, will advance to the next round on Monday after Messaoud Redouane Dris, an Algerian opponent, withdrew from the competition, according to the Times of Israel.
