Squad member pens screed about 'evil of White supremacy' after Penny acquittal.
Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., expressed his desire to "expose the hypocrisy and wickedness of it all" following the death of Jordan Neely.
In response to the acquittal of Daniel Penny in the death of Jordan Neely, outgoing Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., wrote a lengthy message targeting "White people."
On May 1, 2023, a 30-year-old homeless man with schizophrenia and an active arrest warrant, who was shouting death threats on the subway, was restrained by Penny with the help of other passengers. However, Neely later died.
In his final days in office, Bowman wrote a thread on X that began, "Dear White People," after being outraged that a jury found Penny not guilty of criminally negligent homicide.
"I don't understand why I feel the urge to continue talking to you," the "Squad" member said. "I don't understand why a part of me still holds onto hope for you and for us. Some of you have gone too far. But perhaps enough of you haven't and will join us in the fight against white supremacy."
He continued, "I just want to call out the hypocrisy and evil of it all and continue to hope. I won't completely rely on you because I know what's most important is to work with my community and other like-minded allies in the fight for justice."
The lawmaker stated that he had watched high-profile deaths and violence against Black people, including Rodney King, Eric Garner, and George Floyd, and added Neely while claiming, "He was not a threat. He was subdued. Still not a threat. Daniel Penny choked him for 6 minutes. And killed him. We all watched it on camera, and he was still acquitted."
"Bowman wrote, "I've neglected to mention about a hundred more instances of this trauma in my life. To put it into perspective, I inquire white individuals, how many times have you witnessed a white man being brutally murdered on camera through your newsfeed? How many times have you even heard about this?""
Although some X users highlighted the irony of the statement, the CEO's murder video was the top news story.
Whenever you experience discomfort due to your whiteness, Black people suffer harm or death, and there is no accountability or justice. This is the evil of white supremacy, which affects people across geography and political parties, and is detrimental to all.
"I wish I didn't have to carry the weight of trauma with me. I wish I could simply be myself. Despite the oppression of white supremacy, I am in awe of the strength and resilience of my people. It is truly remarkable. That is what I will continue to draw strength from."
"RIP Jordan Neely. The justice system failed you. Kyle Ritenhouse and Daniel Penny are free. You’re gone. We must still fight," he concluded. The Rittenhouse shooting only involved White men.
Congressman's message to White people caused shock among social media users.
I can't believe that a congressman just suggested he doesn't understand why he needs to communicate with an entire racial group. What?
Katherine Brodsky wrote that any post beginning with "dear white people" is a sign of a malignant narcissist and racist, and she would never address people based on their skin color as if they were a unified being.
"Please stop making everything about race," Sequoia Capital partner Shaun Maguire requested, to which Elon Musk responded, "Yes, enough. This has gone on for too long."
Christopher Rufo of the Manhattan Institute stated that it is shameful that manipulative and resentful rhetoric has ever been effective. Although he is now receiving a ratio, in the past, people would apologize for their privilege in the comments. It is crucial to remember and never repeat this madness.
Novelist Kat Rosenfield expressed gratitude for moving beyond the moment when it was socially unacceptable to say that an elected official's statement was insane, despite the social pressure to remain silent. In truth, she believes no one truly supported the statement.
Guy Benson, a Planet Chronicle contributor, stated that Bowman's post was "overtly racist."
Bonchie from RedState thanked the racist man who lost his seat due to insanity.
"Thank you, people of NY16, for voting out the delusional, race-baiting, terrorist-sympathizing, fire alarm-pulling congressman," said Jeremy Hunt of the Hudson Institute and Veterans on Duty.
"The Squad" lost its first member, Bowman, over the summer due to a series of scandals and controversies, including being censured for pulling a fire alarm and giving a profanity-laced rant against AIPAC.
