SNL parodies its opposition to Trump by appearing to endorse his victory: "We've been with you all along."
Bill Burr discusses Trump's victory: "Ladies, you've lost two out of three against this man"
In the first cold open after his election victory, "Saturday Night Live" parodied its support for Donald Trump, with the show's actors feigning enthusiasm for him.
The SNL show began with a serious tone as Ego Nwodim stated that Trump's victory over Kamala Harris was "shocking and horrifying" to many. The cast then solemnly noted that there were no protections for those who spoke out against Trump. The punchline came when Kenan Thompson said, "We at SNL have always been with you, Donald Trump."
Bowen Yang, a cast member, stated that they have always remained committed to supporting you, even when others questioned your abilities.
The skit joked that the entire liberal cast voted for Trump and wanted their children to emulate him, and they would rat out anyone at SNL who voted for Harris.
James Austin Johnson, who plays Trump, wore a muscular bodysuit for SNL's new impression of "hot, jacked Trump," while rolling his eyes. Dana Carvey also made a cameo to parody billionaire Elon Musk, who the cast said they support.
"Hail Trump," Thompson said at one point.
On Saturday, comedian Bill Burr hosted an episode and discussed the election in his monologue, urging women to stop wearing pantsuits.
"Burr stated, "Ladies, you're 0-2 against this guy. It's time to stop trying to be respectful and win the office by being more assertive. Don't be afraid to show some confidence and charm. You don't need to go all the way, but find a balance between Applebee's and your dad not sticking around.""
In the race, Burr made fun of undecided voters and suggested that Trump survived his first assassination attempt due to his "herky jerky movements" on stage.
"Trump is a lunatic, Burr stated, as he pointed out that the president got shot and immediately jumped back up and started yelling in the direction of the bullets, unarmed. This behavior is not that of a sane human being, Burr added, and he would have been on the ground in the fetal position if he had been in Trump's position."
In 2017, after Trump's inauguration, Burr made a memorable appearance on "Conan" and criticized Hillary Clinton for losing the election.
SNL has consistently expressed its disdain for Trump, who has appeared on the show twice, most recently during his first presidential campaign in 2015. Despite this, Trump's popularity at SNL waned, and the show openly rejoiced at his defeat by Joe Biden in 2020.
Maya Rudolph portrayed Harris as the "mirror image" on Saturday night of herself in the cold open of the final show before the election last week.
In two days, Trump effortlessly triumphed over Harris, achieving an incredible political resurgence and joining the ranks of only the second president to secure a non-consecutive victory.
The show tried to inject humor into its cold open following a disheartening election outcome.
In 2016, SNL expressed its grief over Clinton's defeat to Trump, with Kate McKinnon playing "Hallelujah" on the piano and emotionally declaring that she wouldn't surrender and neither should anyone else.
The show later mocked liberals who were certain that a Republican would never win the presidency again and that Clinton would ultimately triumph.
