Since the revelation of the Mar-a-Lago meeting with Trump, the viewership of 'Morning Joe' on MSNBC has been steadily declining.
MSNBC morning show experiences a significant decline in viewership in a crucial demographic.
Since co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski revealed their meeting with President-elect Donald Trump, MSNBC's "Morning Joe" has seen its liberal audience dwindle.
On Monday at 6 a.m. ET, Scarborough and Brzezinski disclosed that they journeyed to Mar-a-Lago in Florida on Friday to engage with Trump, whom they had long denounced as a "fascist" and a danger to democracy.
In 2024, MSNBC's "Morning Joe" typically attracted 1.1 million total viewers from 6-9 a.m. ET. However, on Monday, the audience dropped to 769,000 as liberal viewers tuned out after the show featured a powwow with Trump.
On Tuesday, the audience shrank again with an average of 683,000 total viewers, and it shriveled even more on Wednesday with an average of 618,000 total viewers.
Since Monday's admission, "Morning Joe" has been losing viewers daily, with Wednesday's audience being 43% smaller than its year-to-date average.
The program "Morning Joe" has experienced a significant drop in viewership among adults aged 25-54, with a 61% decline in demo viewers on Wednesday, despite averaging 67,000 demo viewers in 2024.
Some MSNBC employees and high-profile liberals, including Jennifer Rubin and Rosie O'Donnell, have criticized Scarborough and Brzezinski for meeting with Trump.
The co-hosts met with Trump last week for the first time in seven years, Brzezinski informed viewers. Scarborough stated that they disagreed on many issues and conveyed this to him.
The meeting, according to the hosts, was about an agreement to "restart communications" and covered topics such as abortion, mass deportation, and threats of retribution against political opponents and media outlets.
"All In with Chris Hayes" and Joy Reid's "ReidOut" also experienced their lowest-rated programs ever among the key demo this week, in addition to "Morning Joe" being in trouble.
Comcast's decision to spin off MSNBC and other struggling cable assets into a separate company has resulted in ratings woes.
Scarborough joked on-air that he could lose his job once the spinoff is finished, which is predicted to occur in approximately a year. "At that point, you never know what will transpire," he stated.
