The man arrested for the second alleged assassination attempt on former President Trump was calm and collected when law enforcement surrounded him, indicating that he knew he was caught, the Florida sheriff stated.

On "America Reports" Monday, Sheriff William Snyder of Martin County commended law enforcement and thanked a civilian bystander for providing a photo of the Black Nissan used by 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh to escape.

Earlier, Secret Service agents fired shots at Routh when they saw him pointing a rifle through the fence at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla., where the former president was playing golf.

"The coordination between my road patrol deputies and the Palm Beach County sheriff's office was flawless, but it was a civilian witness who did the right thing by giving us a description and a picture of the suspect that ultimately led to the arrest. Had it not been for the Palm Beach sheriff's office's quick response in getting that information out, the suspect would have gotten past us and who knows what would have happened next."

Despite the 30 rifles drawn at him and helicopters overhead, Routh appeared oddly unbothered when law enforcement closed in, Snyder recalled.

Snyder recounted seeing a poised individual who was in control of himself, despite the presence of armed deputies and a helicopter overhead. The interstate was shut down in both directions, with 30 deputies present. The person was in the middle of it all and never asked for clarification. Snyder realized that the person knew the time when he saw this.

"He was caught because he knew the gig was up."

At first, Snyder believed that shots had been fired but was not informed that they were fired by Secret Service agents.

"We utilized that potential and information to dispel the belief that we were confronting an armed assassin of the former president," he stated.

"We were aware that we were making a high-profile stop, possibly the highest in the history of this sheriff's office," he said. "We had a BOLO from the Palm Beach County sheriff's office and knew the vehicle description, tag number, and direction. We pulled onto the interstate and one of my patrol deputies spotted the vehicle. We called out the location, surrounded it with heavy-duty trucks, forced it off the road, and at gunpoint got the suspect out of the vehicle and safely in custody."

Authorities reported that Routh possessed two backpacks, ceramic plates for bullet deflection, and a GoPro camera when he was apprehended. Additionally, his rifle was retrieved by authorities.

Video footage released Monday afternoon depicted the moment deputies arrested Routh. The footage shows the driver being instructed to walk backwards with his hands on his head towards the deputies after surrendering.

On Monday morning, Routh was present in a federal court hearing in West Palm Beach, Florida, for charges of possessing a firearm by a convicted felon and a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Routh will remain in custody due to the possibility of additional federal charges, as announced on Monday by Planet Chronicle.
