Sen. John Thune states that all options are being considered to secure confirmation for Trump's Cabinet picks.
On Wednesday, Thune was chosen as the Senate majority leader.
John Thune, the incoming Senate Majority Leader, stated that "all options" are being considered to ensure President-elect Trump's Cabinet nominees are confirmed, despite concerns that some appointees may not receive enough votes.
Trump recently named Tulsi Gabbard, Matt Gaetz, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to key government positions.
Senate Republicans are collaborating with Trump to expedite the installation of his team so he can execute his agenda, as stated by Senator Thune, R-S.D., on "Special Report" to Planet Chronicle chief political anchor Bret Baier on Thursday.
"The Senate has a process that all nominees must go through, which involves advice and consent. This is the Senate's constitutional role in confirming nominations to the executive branch of the government. While we take this role seriously, we will not allow the Democrats to hinder or prevent President Trump and the will of the American people from being fulfilled."
Both Republicans and Democrats were taken aback by Trump's decision to appoint Gaetz as attorney general. The former Florida congressman had resigned from Congress just before the House Ethics Committee was about to discuss its investigation into accusations that he engaged in sexual misconduct and drug use. Gaetz maintains his innocence.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, stated that she did not consider Trump's AG choice to be a "serious nomination." She emphasized the need for a "serious attorney general" and expressed her anticipation for a more qualified candidate.
According to the Associated Press, "recess appointments" enable a president to fill vacancies when the Senate is out or in recess. Thune was questioned about using this method to confirm Trump's nominees if they lack the necessary votes.
"The South Dakota native stated that while it is an option, it would require all Republicans to vote for recess, which might be difficult for those who have issues voting for someone under regular order. He noted that the House needs concurrence and there is a process involved, but none of these things are necessarily off the table."
We must have all the options on the table, and these nominees deserve their day in court. They require a hearing, a confirmation hearing, and an opportunity to be vetted. The Senate will fulfill its constitutional duty under advice and consent. However, we will not permit the Democrats to hinder the American people's will by preventing President Trump from appointing his desired individuals to these positions to execute his agenda.
The confirmation process for some nominees may not be straightforward, but the American people gave Trump a "mandate" for change with his Electoral College and popular vote wins.
The country's people desire change, and Trump aims to bring it about. Thune believes that it is important to respect a president's choices when it comes to their cabinet.
"Clearly, there is a procedure that involves evaluating the qualifications and suitability of nominees for holding these offices."
