Sarah Silverman reveals that she has become less political due to the decreasing interest in celebrity opinions.
If she had been more outspoken during the election, a liberal comic said, it wouldn't have made a difference.
In a recent interview with the Minnesota Star Tribune, comedian Sarah Silverman disclosed the reason behind her reduced political activism during the 2020 election season.
During the 2008 and 2012 campaigns, the liberal comic created videos urging voters to support President Obama. Additionally, she delivered a speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
The comedian revealed that she didn't campaign for the Democrats during the current election cycle due to her busy comedy tour schedule and her belief that voters were uninterested in hearing celebrities' political opinions.
While traveling with a tour, many individuals inquired about my plans to create a video. However, I believed that people were not interested in hearing from celebrities at the moment.
"Perhaps I made a mistake," she admitted. "I solely focused on sharing insights from more knowledgeable individuals. If I could go back, there is one thing I would have done. In 2008, I engaged in an initiative called the Great Schlep, encouraging young Jews to convey to their grandparents that they wouldn't visit them unless they voted for Obama. I wish I had taken a similar approach again."
"Not that it would have made a difference," she admitted.
In the final weeks of the election, several well-known celebrities, including Eminem, Bruce Springsteen, Oprah, and Julia Roberts, campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris.
The Harris campaign was later criticized for spending over $10 million on star-studded events as part of her $1.5 billion spending spree, which ultimately resulted in her defeat to President-elect Donald Trump.
Silverman advocated for abortion rights on her social media accounts and urged Americans to vote in the election.
In September, she posted a photo of herself holding up a Harris poster with the caption, "Vote Joy! Vote Kamala!"
