Robert Reich, former Labor secretary, asserts that Elon Musk is behaving recklessly and regulators should take action, including the threat of arrest.
Donald Trump has received Musk's endorsement for president, and the latter has stated that he would be part of Trump's administration.
In a column published Friday, former Labor Secretary Robert Reich, who served under Bill Clinton, stated that Elon Musk was "uncontrollable" and needed to be restrained.
Although Musk may be one of the wealthiest individuals in the world and own a highly influential social media platform, it doesn't mean we are helpless to stop him. Reich provided six actions people could take to curb Musk's power.
In 2022, after Musk acquired Twitter and renamed it X, Reich characterized the purchase as "dangerous nonsense." He contended that Musk's motivation was not free speech but rather power.
Reich urged individuals to shun Tesla and X, and he emphasized that regulators worldwide should detain Musk if he persisted in spreading falsehoods and bigotry about X.
Pavel Durov's arrest in France suggests that global regulators may be considering arresting Elon Musk, according to Reich's argument.
Last week, Durov was arrested at Le Bourget airport in Paris as part of a broad investigation launched earlier this year. French prosecutors claimed that Durov facilitated criminal activity on the messaging app, and judges ordered him to pay 5 million euros bail. The allegations against Durov include that his platform is being used for child sexual abuse material and drug trafficking, and that Telegram refused to share information or documents with investigators when required by law.
"The FTC should demand that Musk remove false statements that could harm individuals, and if he refuses, sue him under Section Five of the FTC Act, according to Reich. Musk's right to free speech under the First Amendment does not outweigh the public interest."
The former labor secretary proposed that the U.S. government end its agreements with Space X, which is owned by Elon Musk.
What is the rationale behind the US government granting Musk's satellites and rocket launchers significant importance to national security when he has consistently disregarded the public interest? Why is it acceptable to give Musk more economic power when he repeatedly abuses it and shows disdain for the public good?
Reich proposed that Americans ensure Musk's preferred presidential candidate does not win the election.
After a narrow escape from an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Donald Trump received the endorsement of Elon Musk.
