Report: Record label considering dropping Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters amid antisemitism allegations.
According to Variety, Pink Floyd co-founder will be dropped by record label after making antisemitic remarks.
Reports indicate that Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters' record label plans to end its partnership with the musician due to his recent inflammatory comments about Israel and Ukraine.
In 2016, BMG signed a publishing agreement with Waters to release a new version of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon." However, the deal was canceled when Thomas Coesfeld became CEO in July 2023, according to Variety.
According to Variety, "Sources reveal that BMG is planning to completely separate from the renowned musician."
BMG declined comment when asked about the report by Planet Chronicle Digital.
Recently, accusations of antisemitism have been directed towards Waters, with his most recent statement being that he is unaware of the details surrounding Hamas's invasion of Israel on October 7th, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 people and the capture of more than 200 hostages in Gaza.
During an interview with journalist Glenn Greenwald, musician Waters expressed doubt about the death toll and Hamas' role in the attack, stating that there was "something very fishy" about the attack and that "we don’t know what they [Hamas] did do" when asked if the attack could be "justified."
"Was it justified for them to resist the occupation? No," he said. "However, it’s important to note that the Geneva Conventions require them to resist the occupation since 1967. It’s a legal and moral obligation."
""I condemn war crimes if they were committed," Waters stated, but he also pointed out that the massacre was exaggerated by the Israelis fabricating tales of beheading babies."
"It's always difficult to determine the truth of what happened, whether it was a false flag operation or not, and we may never get the full story."
In a video interview with Glenn Greenwald last November, Waters revealed that he was "fired" by BMG in the fall, although the news was buried in the conversation and followed a long, familiar tirade in which the musician attributed his split with the company to pressure from pro-Israeli interests towards BMG's parent company Bertelsmann.
In a documentary by the Campaign Against Antisemitism, titled "The Dark Side of Roger Waters," Waters was criticized for his alleged antisemitism, specifically for his concert in Germany where he wore a Nazi-inspired uniform and held a fake rifle.
The screens displayed names of victims, including George Floyd and Sophie Scholl, who were presumably killed by state actors. Anne Frank's name was shown after Shireen Abu Akleh, which sparked controversy. A large inflatable pig floated across the audience, carrying Third Reich-style banners.
The CAA's investigation into Mr. Waters has uncovered emails in which he proposed using offensive language and symbols in his concerts, despite his previous claims of not being an antisemite.
In 2013, Waters wore a Nazi armband and flew a pig-shaped balloon with dictatorial symbols next to the Star of David, which he called "bad faith" and "politically motivated" attacks by Jewish organizations.
