Rep. Seth Moulton criticizes fellow Democrats for being "very arrogant" after Trump's victory.
Trump's win was the hardest election for Democrats, according to Moulton, as he stated on CNN on Friday.
Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., criticized the Democratic Party as being "arrogant" after its defeat in the presidential election.
On Friday, during a "CNN This Morning" panel, a Democratic lawmaker confessed that his party is perceived as arrogant, dogmatic, and judgmental towards those who disagree with their views, according to the American people.
"We are a party that is very arrogant. If you do not agree with us 100% with our dogmatic views on certain issues, then you are not only wrong, you are a bad person," Moulton declared. "That is the attitude that a lot of American voters are hearing from Democrats, or that is what they perceive, and we have to change that."
The congressman stated that his party needs to reflect on their actions after Vice President Harris' loss, saying, "We must comprehend why American voters fundamentally do not trust us. I believe it is because we are more focused on preaching than listening."
The past election was characterized as a clash of cultures in the U.S., with the Democratic Party losing despite having better ideas, according to him.
"After the election, I told my team that it felt like a culture election. I said, "This is a culture election." Our policies on the economy, such as bringing down inflation, are better than those of the opposing party. Despite Trump's tax cuts for billionaires and massive tariffs, our policies will still be effective in reducing inflation. However, American voters trust Republicans more on the economy."
Earlier in the segment, Moulton argued that Democrats should have easily defeated Trump and the GOP.
He commenced by asserting that his fellow Democratic legislators in D.C. lack comprehension of the extent of their defeat.
According to the speaker, many Democrats in the House are justifying their actions by stating that they performed better with Harris.
"Let's put this in perspective," he said. "The Republican Party has been in a civil war for the past year, with the Trump faction at odds with traditional Republicans. This culminated in the House, where they couldn't elect a speaker for three weeks. The party is led by a convicted felon. Given these circumstances, Democrats should have had the easiest election in our lifetimes."
"Despite being the majority, Democrats should have won across the board."
Moulton has been criticized by fellow liberals for his recent comments to The New York Times on why Trump won. He argued that his own party's focus on transgender inclusion in women's sports was a major factor in his election loss.
Moulton stated that he has two young daughters and is concerned about their safety on a playing field, particularly from male or formerly male athletes, but as a Democrat, he feels hesitant to express this fear.
He was questioned by Hunt about the criticism he faced for his remarks on Friday, and he remained firm in his stance.
"Although we are determined to monitor our language and avoid discussing controversial topics, we are ultimately losing out. For instance, a recent exit poll revealed that the inability to address a specific issue was the primary reason swing voters chose Trump. However, Kamala did not provide a response."
