Remember Chicago mayor's extravagant spending with taxpayer money during election time, says local paper.

As Tiffany Henyard seeks reelection next year, the Chicago Tribune editorial board advised voters to remember her history of excessive spending.

The editorial emphasized Henyard's extravagant spending and taxpayer-funded trips, while also pointing out the stark contrast between her luxurious lifestyle and the poverty experienced by a significant portion of Dolton's residents.

The board expressed its dismay that Tiffany Henyard, the controversial mayor of Dolton, and other village officials spent a significant portion of last year traveling the country and enjoying extravagant expenses at the expense of taxpayers.

In January, WGN reported that Henyard and her group spent $67,000 on trips to Portland, Austin, Atlanta, and New York City in five months, all on the taxpayer's dime. In Atlanta, the group stayed at the Four Seasons and allegedly charged taxpayers more than $9,300.

"The board stated that taxpayers spent a significant amount to cover the expenses of the trips. Specifically, the July 2023 trip to Austin by Henyard and other officials cost over $9,000, which is a substantial amount."

"If operations at the CTA and the village of Dolton were running smoothly, and constituents had few complaints, there would be fewer questions for these officials on the need for such frequent time on the road, ostensibly on public business," the editorial continued. "However, that’s not the reality."

The mayor, who has self-described himself as a "super mayor," has been involved in a scandal for several months and is currently under investigation by the federal government due to accusations of excessive spending of taxpayer money, corruption, misconduct, and retaliation against colleagues.

Lori Lightfoot, the former Chicago mayor who is currently leading a special investigation into the mayor, disclosed that Henyard used the village credit card to make purchases at Amazon, Target, Walgreens, Wayfair, and other retailers. One astonishing revelation was that the embattled mayor had spent $33,000 on Amazon on January 5, 2023.

Despite having a median income of $24,000, the 23,000 residents of the Illinois town are paying their mayor, Henyard, nearly $300,000, which is more than the state's governor.

One of Henyard's former colleagues has accused her of sexual assault during a Las Vegas trip, where the alleged victim claims to have been fired after speaking out. Additionally, FOIA documents have revealed that Henyard's cancer charity paid a stylist $7,650, over six transactions between April 6 and June 5, 2023.

The Illinois State Comptroller Office withheld funds from the Village of Dolton last month due to its failure to submit financial records, while reports emerged that Henyard appointed a fired deputy police chief to head the department despite his indictment on bankruptcy fraud charges.

The ongoing FBI investigation into financial misdeeds in Dolton has been a source of pressure for the city, with a population of approximately 20,000, according to a July 2023 estimate from the U.S. Census Bureau. Some locals have labeled her a dictator.

The next mayoral election in Dolton is set for April 2025, following the primary in February 2025. Several Dolton trustees are campaigning to unseat Henyard with the slogan "Clean House 2025."

The current mayor and administration have stolen from the community as a whole, and this must end, according to Dolton Trustee Kiana Belcher, as reported by ABC7.

Henyard did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
