Randi Weingarten asserts that teacher union members are unconcerned about the abolition of the Department of Education.
She stated that her members are not concerned about the presence of bureaucracy in the Department of Education.
Randi Weingarten, the President of the American Federation of Teachers, stated that her members are unconcerned about the possibility of the Department of Education being eliminated.
On Sunday, MSNBC interviewed the head of the second-largest teachers union in the country about President-elect Donald Trump's choice of WWE co-founder Linda McMahon to lead the Department of Education.
"According to Weingarten, her members are not concerned about the existence of a bureaucracy at the Department of Education. In fact, Al Shanker and the AFT opposed its creation in the 1970s, believing it should remain within HEW (Department of Health, Education, and Welfare) because of the holistic approach to education."
After raising concern about South Dakota Sen. Mike Rounds' legislation to eliminate the department, Weingarten made her comments.
The bill, known as the Returning Education to Our States Act, aims to transfer the department's duties to other federal agencies, including the Departments of Interior, Treasury, Health and Human Services, Labor, and State.
Weingarten emphasized the importance of federal funding for schools, despite her indifference towards the abolition of the ED.
Weingarten stated, "Examine Round's bill. He eliminates money for underprivileged children. How does he accomplish this? We require federal funds to enhance opportunities for children."
Corey DeAngelis, a senior fellow at the American Culture Project, stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that Weingarten might have "misinterpreted the bill."
"Perhaps she misinterpreted the invoice. The funds are returned to the states as education grants," he stated. "Even a faulty clock is accurate twice a day. I'm glad Randi Weingarten and I share the same view: it's time to eliminate the bureaucratic chaos that is the Department of Education."
If Randi Weingarten is open to the idea, let's hope some Democrats in Congress will join the majority Party in getting rid of the Department of Education, an unconstitutional waste of time and money. By eliminating the bureaucracy and sending education back to the states, we can reduce waste and give more control to local communities.
During his campaign, Trump indicated that he advocates for the abolition of the Department of Education. He stated that he would prioritize "shutting down the Department of Education in Washington, D.C., and returning all education and education-related work to the states."
