Pelosi believes that if Biden had dropped out earlier, there would have been a primary: "It would have been different."
The former Speaker of the House discussed his thoughts on the past with the New York Times.
In a post-mortem with the New York Times, Nancy Pelosi, the former House Speaker, accused President Biden of not withdrawing from the race earlier.
If the president had left office earlier, there might have been other contenders running for the presidency, according to Pelosi's statement on The Times' "The Interview" podcast.
After the former speaker's statement, it was anticipated that if the president resigned, there would be an open primary. Pelosi played a crucial role in removing Biden from the race following his poor debate performance.
Within an hour of announcing his resignation on July 21, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. Less than 36 hours later, she secured the nomination, receiving commitments of support from a majority of DNC delegates.
"Pelosi believes that Kamala may have done well in a primary and been stronger going forward, but they don't know for sure since it didn't happen. She also thinks that the president's immediate endorsement of Kamala made it difficult to have a primary at that time, and if it had been earlier, it would have been different."
Planet Chronicle Digital reached out to Biden and the Harris campaign for comment.
After Harris secured the nomination, Pelosi repeatedly emphasized that there had been an open process, but no one else had stepped forward to take advantage of it.
During an interview with The Wall Street Journal in August, Pelosi stated that many of us who were concerned about the election wanted an open process. It was an open process, and anyone could have participated.
Pelosi stated that "[Harris] won the nomination politically astutely by taking advantage of the president's endorsement, but anybody else could have gotten in."
In September, she repeated her comments on "The View" and stated, "I was among the first to endorse any of the leaders. This was within 24 hours."
Once again pressed that month, Pelosi expressed satisfaction that it had happened so quickly.
"Pelosi stated that she did not change her mind about the election results, as Kamala Harris won the open primary. She added that although others could have joined the race, only Harris ran and took off with it. Pelosi considered this a blessing because there was limited time between the primary and the election, which saved time."
The Pelosi "The Interview" podcast will be released Saturday.
