Over the past four years, the Department of Justice (DOJ) invested more than $100 million in education initiatives related to restorative justice, social emotional learning, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), as per a recent report.

PDE, a conservative group, released its latest report on Thursday, which revealed that the DOJ granted and distributed $100,113,942 in grants to over 900 school districts across 36 states between 2021 and 2024.

The DOJ spent a total of $97,172,954 on various projects that focus on restorative practices, social emotional learning, diversity, equity, inclusion, and consultant certification.

Another $10,296,100 was spent on proposals for hiring new administrators, including a "restorative justice facilitator."

The Minnesota Department of Education received nearly $2 million to establish safe learning environments that incorporate anti-racism and anti-oppression practices, while New Jersey's Ocean County received nearly $1 million to reduce violence and equate "teasing" with "oppression and all forms of violence."

The DOJ's STOP School Violence Program was highlighted in the report, with the group cautioning that its goal of "improving school climate" through "social emotional learning" could lead to disciplinary actions being replaced.

PDE wrote that schools frequently equate "improving school climate" with replacing punitive discipline with restorative practices and social emotional learning.

Exclusionary discipline eliminates the disruptor from the classroom, enabling the rest of the class to continue learning. In contrast, restorative practices frequently disrupt class time for more students, as both the offender(s) and victim(s) in an incident are brought together to discuss what happened and 'repair harm.'

The PDE stated that the figures were based solely on the available data, with some counties having multiple grants being counted only once, implying that the actual number is probably much greater.

According to PDE founder and president Nicole Neily, the Biden Administration's claims about prioritizing student safety through these grants are false, as federal bureaucrats chose to prioritize ideology and pet projects instead, using taxpayer money to do so.

Planet Chronicle Digital reached out to the DOJ for comment.

In the past month, PDE published a report that revealed the Department of Education had spent more than $1 billion on grants promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in hiring, programming, and mental health training in American schools from 2021 to the present.

The report indicates that $489,883,797 was allocated for race-based hiring grants, $343,337,286 was spent on general DEI programming, and $169,301,221 went towards DEI-based mental health training and programming, totaling $1,002,522,304.81 in all.
