On his Sunday show, George Stephanopoulos did not discuss the ABC News settlement with Trump's defamation lawsuit.
The ABC News anchor also deleted his Twitter account.
On his Sunday show, ABC News host George Stephanopoulos failed to address the recent settlement between his network and President-elect Donald Trump.
On Saturday, it was reported by Planet Chronicle Digital that ABC News and Stephanopoulos reached a settlement to prevent a trial from occurring over Trump's defamation lawsuit against the network and anchor.
Despite the news of the settlement not being featured on ABC's "This Week," Stephanopoulos covered stories about unidentified drones over New Jersey, ongoing conflicts in Syria, and Trump's cabinet picks.
He also deleted his X account over the weekend.
Stephanopoulos was the center of a lawsuit following his assertion that Trump was found "guilty of rape" in a civil case during a heated interview with Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., in March.
Stephanopoulos questioned Mace about her endorsement of Trump after she testified about being raped.
E. Jean Carroll's legal victory against Donald Trump for rape and defamation was alluded to by Stephanopoulos, who mentioned the judges and two separate juries that found Trump liable for these offenses.
Despite a jury determining Trump liable for "sexual abuse," which has a specific definition under New York law, Stephanopoulos repeated the claim ten times during his argument with Mace.
In May, the "This Week" host was initially resistant to the lawsuit and stated that he would not be intimidated into stopping his job due to a threat.
Stephanopoulos said on Stephen Colbert's late-night show that Trump sued him for using the word "rape," even though a judge ruled it was true, and they filed a motion to dismiss.
As per the settlement, ABC News will contribute $15 million to a presidential foundation and museum to be established by or for the plaintiff, as past presidents of the United States have done. Furthermore, the network will pay $1 million in legal fees for Trump's attorneys.
ABC News and George Stephanopoulos issued a statement of "regret" as an editor's note at the bottom of a March 10, 2024, online article, regarding comments made earlier this year that prompted Trump to file a defamation lawsuit. The note reads, "ABC News and George Stephanopoulos regret statements regarding President Donald J. Trump made during an interview by George Stephanopoulos with Rep. Nancy Mace on ABC’s This Week on March 10, 2024."
The case's conclusion brought "pleasure" to ABC News, according to their statement.
An ABC News spokesperson informed Planet Chronicle Digital that they are happy about the parties reaching a lawsuit dismissal agreement as outlined in the court filing.
Planet Chronicle' Gabriel Hays contributed to this report.
