Ohio Air Force veteran, brother released from Dubai jail with assistance from JD Vance: "They refused to let this happen"
With the aid of GOP vice presidential candidate JD Vance, an Ohio Air Force veteran and his brother were released from a UAE jail after being incarcerated for several months.
Joseph Lopez and his brother, Joshua, were released from the Dubai jail on Tuesday, ending a four-month-long legal nightmare. Joseph spoke about his reaction to his long-awaited release on "Fox & Friends First".
"Lopez told Carley Shimkus on Thursday that he felt great in the "Land of the free, home of the brave." However, he was still disassociated and felt like he was in a dream. He believed that it would take time for him to process everything and fully understand his current situation."
In June, the Lopez brothers were arrested while on a trip to the UAE. According to Detained in Dubai, the pair were leaving a nightclub when an Uber driver offered to take them to an "afterparty" at a nearby hotel.
The brothers were invited to a yacht party shortly after the party they attended ended. Despite initially declining, the man convinced them to accept his invitation, stating that they would be his American guests.
After agreeing to attend, they were later surprised with a bill of over $2,700 upon arriving at the boat.
Lopez insisted they were drugged and robbed.
"Lopez stated that he believes the incident occurred because he was clearly an American, and in Dubai, people associate Americans with money. As a result, they attempted to extort him, but it did not go as planned, and he was drugged. Although Lopez does not recall all the details, he was charged with crimes that he has no recollection of."

"He added, "There's no hygiene in that place. They don't provide a toothbrush, only a shirt and pants. There's no soap or body wash. You have to eat with your hands.""
According to Parker Magid, Vance's spokesperson, he worked with the State Department to secure the release of the pair.
