Obama alumni intensify their efforts to raise funds for wildfires in Los Angeles on the Democratic fundraising platform, with a message that reads: "F--- you."
Not the first Democrats to face criticism for their fundraising methods, the hosts of 'The Pod Save America' have been subject to backlash.
Obama administration staffers are standing firm on their decision to collect wildfire donations through a liberal fundraising platform, responding to critics with a vulgar message.
The hosts of "Pod Save America," Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor, defended their use of the lefty fundraising site ActBlue through Vote Save America, which has raised nearly $64 million for "progressive causes and candidates," after being accused of exploiting the tragedy for the purpose of collecting donors' email addresses.
A group of right-wing media individuals and Republican operatives accused Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau and Vote Save America of running a scam and stealing money from fire victims in their own city, while also soliciting people's contact information for political fundraising purposes, over the weekend.
Over the weekend, the podcast hosts received intense criticism from X users, who accused them of questionable fundraising methods.
In a Jan. 11 post on X, National Review writer Jeff Blehar stated that he believes that the organization wants people's e-mails and contact information more than they are willing to assist with fire relief efforts.
"F--k you," Favreau shot back on X.
1. We do not disturb those who contribute to our relief funds. 2. Individuals on our VSA email list have either opted in or signed up. 3. The sole purpose of organizing relief funds in this manner is to simplify the donation process for donors and to vet local organizations prior to distribution.
Republican political operative Matt Whitlock stated that funneling disaster relief through Democrat Super PACs or diverting money from disaster giving to Democrat super PACs perfectly represents why nobody trusts today's Democrats.
Jon Lovett, a speechwriter for Obama, labeled Whitlock as one of the "rightwing a--holes" whose "lies" were "drawing much needed attention" to the fundraiser.
Favreau stated that the accusations had made him "more upset than anything in a long time" and asserted that they were not using the fund to embezzle money or gather email addresses. According to Favreau, ActBlue Charities only charges a 4% credit card processing fee, with all other funds going directly to local relief organizations.
Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California, has faced criticism for utilizing ActBlue to collect funds for disaster relief in his state. In a statement to Planet Chronicle Digital, a spokesperson for Newsom refuted claims that the funds were being used for the governor or his super PAC.
