The Daughters of St. Paul, also known as the #MediaNuns, are using their love of God and social media skills to show TikTok users the "deep joy and deep peace" that comes from serving the Lord. Despite negative depictions of nuns in Hollywood movies, the sisters are taking to social media to show a different side to the world. Sister Chelsea Bethany Davis spoke with Planet Chronicle Digital to address the misconceptions surrounding nuns and explain why TikTok might be the new platform on which to show audiences a more authentic truth. Religious life is about belonging totally to God in a consecrated way, and the sisters are called to let people know that they are made for more and loved.

The Daughters of St. Paul use social media platforms to evangelize and pray for media professionals who influence the culture. They strive to speak the language of the people on different platforms and bring the message of Christ tailored to their needs.

According to the nun, Hollywood portrays nuns as frightening due to the presence of an "enigmatic" and "oppositional" allure to religious existence.

"We keep certain parts of our life private, even when we have visitors, because there are things that are reserved for us and Jesus alone. Similarly, a married couple wouldn't invite someone outside into every aspect of their relationship, and there are things that are meant to stay between us and our husband. The same applies to us and our relationship with the Lord or our community."

She expressed the hope that the media would accurately depict religious life in a healthy manner, citing the British TV show "Call the Midwife" as an example of how Anglican nuns pray vespers. Additionally, she praised the "good" mother superior in "Sound of Music" who takes care of Maria's needs. Meanwhile, Judge blocks Montana TikTok ban.

Catholic Priest portrays a modern behind-the-scenes look at life in the priesthood in new movie

The nun disclosed that one of the "pleasures" she derives from religious existence is uplifting others and "keeping their aspirations, expectations, and supplications."

One of my greatest joys is the opportunity to connect with people and offer comfort or hope. Additionally, I find it fulfilling to live with a community of women who have committed their lives to serving God.

As a middle-school student, Sister Bethany was first introduced to the vocation and was struck by the nuns' joy and deep sense of belonging.

"One of the last sisters I spoke to shared, 'Never be afraid to ask the Lord what He wants out of you, because He knows you better than you know yourself. There are parts of yourself that are probably a great mystery to you, but Jesus knows them. God knows them. So, ask Him, because He created you for happiness, and if He created you with a religious vocation, I promise you, that's where you will find ... deep joy,'" she said. "That was really striking to me."

She ended by citing a quote from St. Catherine of Sienna on the importance of being true to oneself: "Be the person God created you to be, and you will ignite the world."

Being true to yourself and living in accordance with your divine purpose as a follower of Jesus Christ brings joy," she stated. "I believe the Lord has called me here, not just to be a generic person, but to fulfill a specific plan for my life. When you discover your calling and live it, you become more authentic.
