Nikki Glaser criticizes celebrities who can't give political advice at the Golden Globes.
Numerous prominent figures from the entertainment industry backed Vice President Kamala Harris during the election campaign.
Nikki Glaser began the Golden Globes ceremony by poking fun at the celebrities' previous presidential endorsements, which seemed to have no impact.
As the awards ceremony commenced on Sunday evening, Glaser commenced by lauding the assembly of celebrities, before swiftly transitioning to mocking them.
Glaser stated that he was not there to criticize anyone that night. He wanted to make it clear that he had no intention of roasting anyone. Given the individuals' fame, talent, and power, Glaser questioned how he could possibly do so. He emphasized that they were capable of achieving anything, except for telling the country who to vote for.
She replied, "But it’s okay! You’ll get them next time! If there is one. I’m scared." as the crowd laughed.
A number of prominent Hollywood figures, including Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Alec Baldwin, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Harrison Ford, publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris prior to the election.
Although Harris received support from several individuals, she still lost to President-elect Trump and failed to win any of the seven swing states or any counties that voted for Trump in 2020.
In August, Glaser was announced as the host and subsequently wrote a statement expressing her excitement to mock the celebrity audience, citing controversial former host Ricky Gervais as an inspiration.
"Glaser expressed his excitement about hosting the Golden Globes in a statement reported by The Hollywood Reporter. He stated that it is one of his favorite nights of television and now he gets a front row seat (actually, he thinks he has to host from the stage). The Golden Globes is not only a huge night for TV and film but also for comedy. It's one of the few times that show business not only allows but encourages itself to be lovingly mocked (at least he hopes so). It's an exciting, yet challenging gig because it's live, unpredictable and in front of Hollywood's biggest stars (who also might be getting wasted while seated next to their recent exes)."
"My favorite jokes of all time have come from past Golden Globes opening monologues by Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, or Ricky Gervais, who said exactly what we all didn't know we desperately needed to hear. I hope to continue in that time-honored tradition (that might also get me canceled). This is truly a dream job. Plus, I no longer have to feel guilty for every TV show and movie I've binged over the past year. It was all worth it. (Below Deck: Sailing Yacht Season Four will be nominated, right?)"
