New York Gov. Kathy Hochul criticized the DNC speech as a "black hole of charisma."
Did Hochul inquire about being prepared to choose the first president of the United States?
On Monday, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul faced criticism on social media for her "painful" speech at the Democratic National Convention.
In fact, George Washington would like a word.
In her speech, Hochul mistakenly omitted the word "female" when referring to Vice President Kamala Harris as the "first President of the United States."
When Hochul began attacking former President Trump as lacking "New York values," the crowd appeared largely checked out a few minutes into her speech.
Trump was labeled a "fraud, a philanderer, and a felon" by her.
Hochul sarcastically remarked, "It's no surprise he had to escape to Mar-a-Lago. My apologies, Florida," to a silent audience.
Hochul declared, "New York's motto is 'excelsior: ever upward,' but Trump takes us ever downward," in an attempt at a mic drop moment, which seemed to miss its mark as most attendees were unaware of the reference.
Grace Curley, a Boston Herald columnist, posed the question, "Is Kathy Hochul consistently poor or is she simply having a bad day?" Jake Novak responded with a firm "Always," while David Marcus added, "Kathy Hochul is the substitute teacher that other substitute teachers mock."
Substack writer Sam Deutsch replied, "To be fair, it was a riveting speech—you could literally hear a pin drop in the stadium," when Semafor Washington bureau chief Benjy Sarlin joked, "People will say this ran way too long, but what are you supposed to do, not give Kathy Hochul a speech."
The Trump War Room account accused her of boasting about using the legal system to falsely accuse President Trump of 34 crimes in the most embarrassing and dishonest manner possible.
Many others took to social media to blast Hochul:
In the evening, the liberal audience gave Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, a huge applause, prompting some to propose that she should challenge Hochul for the governorship.
In June, a Siena College survey revealed that New York's Democratic governor's approval rating had reached a record low of 44%, with 50% disapproving of her performance as governor. Additionally, her favorability rating was underwater at 38%-49%, unfavorable to favorable.
In 2021, Hochul became the governor of New York after Cuomo resigned. She was later elected to a full term in 2022, but won by less than seven points in the heavily blue state. In contrast, Cuomo won re-election in 2018 by 23 points.
