Neil deGrasse Tyson and Bill Maher disagree on the superiority of men's sports over women's.
Maher criticized his scientist guest, labeling him as "part of the problem."
"Bill Maher and Neil deGrasse Tyson had a heated debate on "Real Time" over Tyson's reluctance to acknowledge that men have a physical advantage over women in sports, with Tyson labeling himself as part of the problem."
The discussion started when Maher highlighted the removal of Scientific American's editor-in-chief due to her controversial comments about Trump supporters.
Maher believed the magazine's true "scandal" was an article from last year that argued "The disparity between male and female athletes is not due to inherent biological differences between the sexes, but rather to biases in how they are treated in sports."
"Maher responded, 'That's nuts and not scientific.' He added, 'It's in Scientific American, which is why the Democrats lost the election.'"
The famed astrophysicist responded by letting out a big belly laugh.
"It's true," Maher doubled down.
Tyson stated that Bill consistently generates a new reason every 20 minutes on his platform for why the Democrats lost.
"Maher retorted, "That's not true. To begin with, you don't watch this show, so you have no idea." He added, "I understand that you don't watch it, and that's fine, but you act as if you do, and you're f***ing lying. And that's okay, just don't lie to me. That's the one thing people can't do on this show is lie to me.""
"Maher stated, "Idea engaged, Maher then said. The point I'm making is that Scientific American suggests that societal biases are the reason why a WNBA team cannot defeat the Lakers.""
"Somebody who no longer has the job as an editor for Scientific American says that, not 'Scientific American says that,'" Tyson countered. "Therefore, it's not accurate to blame a 170-year-old magazine for what someone who no longer works there said."
"Scientific American!" exclaimed Maher. "They're printing something-"
Tyson said, "Let's discuss science instead of engaging in the toxic exchange on social media."
Maher inquired, "Why can't you simply state that this is not scientific and that Scientific American should improve?"
"Well, does she still have her job?" Tyson countered.
"I said the scandal is not her tweet, so why do you see a problem here?"
Tyson suggested that women may have an advantage in long-distance swimming.
Maher jokingly told him, "Yeah, maybe long distance swimming... Well, I'm gonna file you under 'part of the problem'."
During the panel discussion, Tyson's refusal to budge on the subject left Maher dumbfounded.
Maher stated that Scientific American, like many institutions, has been ideologically captured by the far-left wing to the point where they deny obvious facts.
"Andrew Sullivan, a journalist, reacted by saying, "He wouldn't actually address the substance!" when he saw Democrats and liberals refusing to disown certain statements. Sullivan believed that people were not stupid and could see the hypocrisy in their actions. He wondered what Neil was afraid of and believed that he was afraid of being labeled a sexist bigot by a social media mob. Sullivan urged people to get over this fear."
"It's unbelievable," Maher concurred. "And when people see that and realize they can't trust you on anything else, they go, 'Well, then I just can't trust you on anything else.'"
During his "Overtime" segment, Maher and Tyson's disagreement escalated after Tyson accused Maher of not valuing "science matters" when discussing vaccines.
"You're the one who doesn't understand why the [WNBA] team can't beat the Lakers, so I don't know, you're supposed to be a scientist and you couldn't even admit that!" Maher shouted. "This is not your field, you're not a doctor."
An offended Tyson, who is a scientist, reacted by saying "Excuse me."
When I have a goiter on Uranus, I'll call you," Maher said, adding, "That’s not a doctor!
