NBC appoints left-wing journalist Yamiche Alcindor to cover Trump's return to the White House press corps.
During the first Trump administration, Alcindor was PBS' White House correspondent.
NBC News journalist Yamiche Alcindor announced on Monday that she will be returning to the White House to cover the incoming Trump administration after a hiatus.
I'm returning to the White House beat for @NBCNews to cover the second Trump administration. It's an honor to be a journalist and I welcome all news tips and story ideas.
During President-elect Donald Trump's first term, Alcindor was accused of having a liberal bias as a PBS White House correspondent and New York Times reporter, frequently engaging in contentious public exchanges with the president.
In 2018, she was appointed as the White House correspondent for PBS "NewsHour." Later, in 2021, NBC News hired her as their Washington correspondent. However, despite her new roles, Alcindor's history of making alarmist and anti-GOP comments continued.
Prior to joining NBC News, Alcindor gained notoriety for her belief that journalism should be used to promote "justice."
She has a reputation for frequently adding liberal commentary and editorializing to her reporting to promote liberal causes throughout her career.
Alcindor was praised by liberal journalists for her confrontational coverage of Trump's administration. Despite Trump's criticism of her, such as when he accused her of asking a "racist question," her popularity among the press only grew.
Alcindor's change in tone became more radical after President Biden took office, and she frequently praised the administration and White House principal deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. During Biden's first press conference, Alcindor raved about him, calling him a "moral, decent man," and asked him how he would heal the "scars" in Europe left by Trump.
American democracy officials have emphasized to me that regardless of whether it's Republicans or Democrats, they still felt a sense of America being a leader and valuing its European allies. However, this feeling was largely lost under President Trump, who was openly hostile and often mean to our European allies.
Alcindor frequently included "context" when reporting on Trump's remarks on Twitter, but not on Biden's. In 2021, Planet Chronicle Digital reported that Alcindor's anonymous sources often promoted talking points aligned with the Democratic agenda and beneficial to the Biden administration.
She was previously accused of making "propagandistic" remarks about Biden, showering him with excessive praise following a press briefing that generated unfavorable media coverage.
In 2022, the NBC News correspondent and PBS host expressed concern that if Roe was overturned, poor women would be "compelled to bear pregnancies" that "will inevitably result in children they cannot afford."
In 2024, Alcindor stated that people were "extremely concerned" about Trump or another Republican winning the election.
On MSNBC's "Deadline: White House," Alcindor stated that the Georgia voting law was passed by Republicans because they believe Black people are not entitled to citizenship.
In 2020, Alcindor stated that covering President Trump's relationship with the press required adding context, including indicating when he was incorrect and when he was correct.
Criticism was directed at NBC for choosing a "far-left activist" to replace her in the White House role, following her announcement of her return.
Conservative writer John Hasson wrote on X that "Wow, it's great to see @NBCNews has learned— *double-checks notes* —nothing. They've learned absolutely nothing from their mistakes."
Former GOP congressional candidate Kim Klacik agreed that it was ridiculous and that she was terrible and extremely combative. She also stated that it seemed as if NBC News wanted to go out of business.
Planet Chronicle' David Rutz contributed to this report.
