Nate Silver, a pollster, rejects the Harris campaign's explanation for their loss, stating it's not a conspiracy.
Silver stated that they do not view themselves as victims but rather as non-Player Characters.
Nate Silver remained unconvinced after Harris staffers attempted to justify their candidate's absence of interviews during the 2024 campaign.
On "Pod Save America," Jen O'Malley Dillon stated that President-elect Trump did not receive any "sh—" for his limited traditional media interviews, while Vice President Kamala Harris faced significant criticism.
Dillon would later label the criticism a "double standard."
Silver tried to dampen the narrative promoted by the Harris campaign by quickly drawing attention to the transcript of the staffer's comments.
"Harris didn't conduct a solo network interview until late September. However, she did a lot of interviews towards the end of the race. But she didn't do much traditional media, which was the campaign's decision, not a conspiracy."
"I've encountered the least agentic people in a comparable decision-making position as the Harris campaign folks. They don't view themselves as victims but rather as non-player characters with no will of their own," he stated.
Characters in video games that are not controlled by the player are referred to as non-playable characters, which are controlled by software programming.
The post-election podcast interview faced criticism from both sides of the aisle, with some accusing the Harris campaign aides of lacking accountability.
In the Harris campaign's first major interview since the vice president's loss to President-elect Trump, "Pod Save America" host Dan Pfeiffer spoke with O'Malley Dillon, David Plouffe, Quentin Fulks and Stephanie Cutter. The online progressives criticized the questioning and the defensive posture of the guests.
The aides of Harris complained about the media coverage and frequently mentioned their limited time of 100 days to prepare for the campaign, which was caused by Biden's uncontested primary and his decision to drop out three weeks after a disastrous June debate with Trump.
Bakari Sellers, a Harris supporter, criticized the podcast interview on CNN on Wednesday, stating that it was "disappointing at best" and highlighted the "lack of self-awareness and self-reflection" displayed by the guests.
Tricia McLaughlin, a Republican strategist, wrote that the Harris campaign aides' interview was similar to a Kamala Harris interview: no one answered the question and there was no interview push back.
