In 20 years, the liberal network has recorded its lowest ratings and smallest non-holiday weekday audience among the 25-54 demographic.
Last week, MSNBC experienced one of its poorest days in two decades due to the ongoing struggles of the liberal network following President-elect Donald Trump's victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.
In 20 years, MSNBC had the lowest rating among adults aged 25-54 during a non-holiday weekday, with only 38,000 average demo viewers, which was the smallest non-holiday audience among the critical viewers since July 19, 2004.
Advertisers are most interested in viewers aged 25 to 54 because they have disposable income but are not yet set in their ways. MSNBC's weekday viewership among this demographic has been consistently lower only on two occasions in the past 20 years: New Year's Day and July 4.
On Tuesday, MSNBC programs experienced all-time lows in viewership, with "The 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle" and "Jose Diaz Balart Reports" recording their smallest audiences ever among total viewers. Additionally, "Chris Jansing Reports," "Deadline: White House," and "Katy Tur Reports" experienced their worst days ever in terms of viewership among the demo.
Since Election Day, more than half of MSNBC's audience has declined in comparison to 2024 average demo viewership.
Since Trump's victory, all of the following MSNBC shows have lost at least 50% of their adult audience aged 25-54: "The 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle," "All In with Chris Hayes," "Chris Jansing Reports," "Inside with Jen Psaki," "The Rachel Maddow Show," and Joy Reid's "ReidOut."
The spin-off of NBCUniversal cable assets, including MSNBC, into a separate company has left the fate of shared resources, the cable network's name, and editorial direction uncertain.
In the past month, "Morning Joe" co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski sparked outrage among viewers when they revealed they had a meeting with Trump after consistently portraying him as a "fascist" and a danger to democracy.
Al Sharpton's nonprofit received funds from the Kamala Harris campaign prior to his interview with her, which has led to criticism and tension among his colleagues.
