MSNBC contributor left speechless after Hunter Biden pardon: "I have to process it ... I'm sorry"
In a statement, President Biden revealed that he has witnessed his son face unjust legal treatment.
On Sunday, MSNBC contributor Molly Jong-Fast was left speechless after learning that President Biden had decided to pardon his son Hunter Biden. She needed time to "process" the news before responding.
"Breaking news: President Biden is expected to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, according to NBC News. The decision was made this weekend. What are your thoughts, Molly?"
Jong-Fast responded, "I just heard it and need to process it. I don't have a take on it yet, and I'm sorry."
In June, Hunter Biden was convicted of three federal gun offenses and later pleaded guilty to a separate felony tax charge in September. Despite earlier promises from President Biden not to pardon his son, the liberal media praised the president's commitment to upholding the justice system's integrity.
President Biden suggested that his son's prosecution was unfairly conducted due to his famous name, after initially promising to let the legal process run its course.
"I signed a pardon for my son Hunter today," Biden stated. "Since my inauguration, I have maintained my commitment to not interfere with the Justice Department's decision-making, even as I have witnessed my son being unfairly prosecuted."
During an MSNBC discussion, Michelle Goldberg, a liberal New York Times columnist, stated that Hunter Biden was unfairly treated.
"Joe Biden demonstrated his respect for norms by avoiding intervention, as opposed to Donald Trump's disregard for them. However, we can see that this approach did not prevent him from facing challenges. I understand why he would not risk his son's life to uphold outdated norms that are about to be shattered."
In a statement following his pardon, Hunter Biden admitted responsibility for his actions, referring to his publicized drug addiction and controversial past.
"I have acknowledged my mistakes during my addiction and accepted responsibility for them, even though they were used to humiliate and shame me and my family for political gain," he stated to Planet Chronicle. "Nevertheless, I have remained sober for over five years due to my strong faith and the constant love and support of my family and friends."
Both President Biden and his spokesperson had consistently stated that he would not grant a pardon to his son.
Last month, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that President-elect Donald Trump had won the election over Vice President Kamala Harris.
She informed reporters that they had asked the question several times before, and her response remained the same, which was "no."
Next week, Hunter Biden was set to receive a sentence for his federal gun charges, in addition to a guilty plea for federal tax evasion, according to NBC News.
