MSNBC anchor alleges that a secret group of Democrats is working to remove Biden from the presidential race.
Wagner claimed that the truth of who edged him out is a conversation that won't be publicly disclosed for a good reason.
Alex Wagner, the MSNBC host, eventually admitted that a secret group of Democratic Party elites was responsible for President Biden's decision to withdraw his nomination.
The 2024 election underwent a significant shift when Biden decided to relinquish the Democratic nomination and endorse Vice President Harris to assume it. Despite this, the circumstances surrounding how Biden renounced the nomination and whether there was a coordinated effort to make him do so remain unclear.
Stephen Colbert discussed the upcoming Democratic National Convention with Wagner, learning that Monday will be a night focused on Biden. He inquired if Wagner had any idea about how the president would be celebrated.
Wagner, who is an MSNBC host and married to former President Obama's personal chef, stammered and nervously laughed multiple times at Colbert's question, "There is a lot that is going to remain probably unreported about the sort of machinations to-."
""What do you want to report?" Colbert asked the news host."
Colbert pressed again after Wagner joked sarcastically that no one was listening.
"Who do you think got Joe out of there? Who do you think placed the shape charge under him?" he demanded.
Colbert pressed Wagner for specifics as she continued to present a vague theory, beginning with "I think there was-".
"Who did it? Was it Obama or Clinton? You know who did it. You're one of those liberal MSNBC things. You got the newsletter. Did you go up to Camp David with a 40-foot pry bar and pop him out of there like a lego?"
"I wasn't at soccer camp, that much I can say, Stephen!" she replied.
Biden's quote that only "the Lord Almighty" could make him leave the race was recalled by Colbert, who again urged Wagner to provide a name.
"Wagner stated that there was more going on behind the scenes than the public would likely hear about, and that there was a private space within Democratic politics where many powerful individuals were trying to claim credit for the situation, but were hesitant to discuss it publicly due to the difficulty it had caused for Joe Biden, which still persisted."
Wagner contended that the man had made the most difficult decision in American politics and had been proven right by Kamala Harris's recent success. However, it was also challenging to imagine his replacement performing any better.
She shifted her focus and discussed Biden's potential appearance at the convention.
"I believe Joe Biden will deliver a powerful State of the Union address, proving that he is still the capable leader we know him to be."
She later revisited Colbert's question, "But as far as who edged him out, I don't think that is a conversation we'll hear publicly, for good reason. It's to some extent, I believe, to protect Joe Biden from the ugliness of the fact that a lot of people wanted him to leave before he was ready to. But ultimately, it was Joe Biden who got him out. He made the decision."
Colbert and Wagner both agreed that he deserved all the praise in the world.
