Migrants in Nebraska town causing 'stress' to schools and public safety.
City council member Paul Von Behren stated that schools and public safety are under a lot of stress, which is causing taxes to increase.
Fremont, Nebraska City Council member Paul Von Behren discussed with Fox & Friends First on Wednesday the impact of illegal immigration on his community, which is grappling with an influx of migrants, particularly those employed in meat-processing plants.
Von Behren stated that the main attraction is the low-cost labor they offer. Despite being less educated and skilled than the typical American worker, they are still valuable due to their availability in a meat processing town. Most businesses in the area rely on their labor to keep costs down.
Von Behren also discussed the impact of illegal immigration on crime in Fremont.
"The city council member stated that there have been at least three arrests for child rape by known illegals from Fremont, and in their traffic stats, 75 percent of DUIs and no-license, no-insurance incidents involve illegals."
"Our schools and public safety are under a lot of stress, which is causing taxes to increase," he stated.
"The exact costs of the increase in taxes in Fremont due to the housing pressure from illegal migrants are difficult to quantify, but property taxes have been rising at least twice the rate of incomes for the last 15 years, with an additional 25% increase in the last 5 years."
Trump's plans to deport illegal migrants were also queried about by Von Behren.
"Supporting deportation is not the issue, according to Von Behren. The problem lies in upholding federal law. These individuals violated the law by entering the country illegally. Regardless of race or other factors, anyone who is in the country unlawfully should be deported."
In the weeks leading up to Trump's inauguration on January 20th, some voters in states such as New York have been surveyed regarding the president-elect's plans for deportation.
A poll conducted by Siena College in New York found that 54% of respondents support the Trump administration's efforts to deport undocumented immigrants living in the state, while 35% oppose the plans.
