Michigan Muslims are 'divided' over the election and criticize the Biden administration's handling of the war in Gaza.
Rezul, a resident of Hamtramck and practicing Muslim, shared with Planet Chronicle Digital that the community remains divided, and many individuals hold varying opinions.
This upcoming election, Planet Chronicle Digital interviewed Arab-Americans and Muslims about their chosen presidential candidate.
Rezul, a resident of Hamtramck, Michigan, and practicing Muslim, stated that the issue remains divided and many individuals hold varying opinions.
The Detroit-area suburb Hamtramck is the only majority Muslim town in Michigan.
Though the Biden administration's handling of domestic policy is "okay," Rezul, a "registered Democrat," is still "undecided" on who to vote for.
He stated, "Although I am currently considering voting for Harris, if I believe Mr. Trump will address the situation in Gaza, I may change my vote to him."
A mechanic named Mohamed stated that he is supporting former President Trump due to inflation and crime concerns.
"Four years have passed and nothing has improved. The situation has only deteriorated. War is rampant globally. The economy is in shambles. Everything is declining," he stated.
During a campaign rally in Michigan, Muslim leaders and imams endorsed the GOP presidential nominee.
What are the thoughts of Hamtramck residents on their Mayor Amer Ghalib endorsing former President Trump? Ghalib, who was born in Yemen, was elected in 2021.
The Hamtramck mayor had a private 20-minute meeting with Trump before he endorsed him in Flint, Michigan, according to a report in the Detroit News.
Ghalib informed the Detroit News that he asked if he could receive an endorsement and urged people to vote for him, to which he replied, "I am here to discuss this and find a way to make it happen."
Abraham told Planet Chronicle Digital that Ghalib's endorsement of Trump was likely due to the fact that Trump was the only one who contacted the mayor.
Abraham added, "Everyone else assumed they were just numbers and trapped because they were Democrats, so they automatically thought they would vote for Biden since he's a Democrat."
A Trump supporter, Abraham, stated that he is casting his vote for the former president because he believes he has the ability to "halt the conflict in the Middle East."
He stated that everything he says and does is based on facts.
Mohamed, a mechanic, stated that Ghalib supports Trump because he believes that what he intends to do and what he claims he will do align with what is right. Specifically, Ghalib plans to end the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine.
Rezul stated that he believed not everyone would follow him, as everyone has their own interests and thoughts.
The Biden administration's handling of the war in Gaza left Muslim voters feeling very dissatisfied.
A resident of Dearborn, where one of the largest Muslim communities in the US resides, stated that the Biden administration is "supporting a genocide in Gaza."
As an American Muslim, I cannot back the current administration and Kamala, according to Shadi, a Trump supporter, who shared this with Planet Chronicle Digital.
Another Trump supporter, Abdou, criticized the Biden administration's management of the Gaza conflict.
Abdou stated that he does not approve of Kamala Harris' actions regarding Israel and Palestine, and he is uncertain if Trump will provide much assistance. However, he knows that Trump will not support the issue as strongly as Harris does.
""We are deeply disappointed by the events in Gaza over the past year," Rezul stated, adding that the Arab community is concerned about the deaths of Muslims in Gaza."
Harth, another Muslim voter, stated that he never votes as he believes both political parties are corrupt and advised his fellow Muslims to refrain from voting.
The Iraqi native stated that Biden destroyed America's reputation and democracy, as well as many other things.
The Arab and Muslim community in the U.S. has been pressuring President Biden and Vice President Harris to implement a ceasefire in Gaza since the Israel-Hamas war began over a year ago. Muslim and Arab-Americans protested Biden in the Michigan Democratic primary earlier this year by voting "uncommitted."
