Michelle Obama receives high praise from 'View' co-hosts for not attending the inauguration.
Sunny Hostin advised viewers on 'The View' to "become small like an ant and go to the earth's crust" when they feel threatened.
On Monday, former first lady Michelle Obama was commended by "The View" co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar for choosing not to attend President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration.
The former first lady should have the right to criticize Trump, according to Hostin.
"On Friday, Hostin reinterpreted Obama's quote, suggesting that when opponents lower their standards, one should respond by lowering even further and becoming small like an ant to reach the earth's crust."
According to a source close to the former first lady, Obama will not be present at the inauguration, as reported by People Magazine this week.
"The source stated that Michelle is not one to hide her true feelings about Trump and doesn't follow protocol or tradition just for the sake of politeness."
According to The Hill, the ex-first lady's longtime allies believe her decision to skip the event was a form of resistance against Trump.
"She spoke sincerely on the campaign trail, with every word coming from the depths of her being, according to a source."
During the 2024 presidential campaign, Obama criticized Trump harshly, and in her speech at the Democratic National Convention, she accused the incoming president of spreading "ugly, misogynistic, racist lies."
Although his wife is not present, former President Barack Obama will still attend the ceremony with former presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush and their spouses.
Hostin agreed with Behar's statement that Obama's non-attendance was the right move.
Obama was criticized by Hostin for her speech at the DNC last year, where she accused Trump of trying to instill fear in people towards her and her husband.
Hostin explained why she wouldn't go by saying, "And I think when you see that, you understand why she wouldn’t go."
Alyssa Farah Griffin, co-host of "The View," stated that she is not concerned if Michelle Obama does not attend the inauguration because she is not a government figure. However, she believes that Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., should attend as she is still a leader among Democrats and it is important to show that the country is moving forward.
Sara Haines concurred with Griffin, stating that Democratic leaders should attend the event to demonstrate their commitment to being above political maneuvers.
Ana Navarro suggested that Pelosi might be granted an exception from attending due to her age and recent hip injury.
Obama's decision to skip the inauguration left Behar questioning why other leaders were not following suit.
She stated that this inauguration is not typical and the person being inaugurated is not a typical individual. He is a convicted felon. Why are they treating this as a normal inauguration when it's not?
"America voted because presidents who say 'Just because this, we’re not' present a weakness to the globe," Haines retorted.
President Trump's normalization occurred when the American public voted for him, according to Haines.
