DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas expressed his appreciation for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's decision to pursue a second attempt at passing a bipartisan border security bill, which was previously rejected in both the House and Senate.

Mayorkas stated on "Your World" with Neil Cavuto that the bill would bring about necessary changes to outdated laws that have been in place for 30 years.

"We have a severely broken asylum system, and this would provide us with the resources we desperately need but currently lack," he stated.

Politico obtained a letter from Schumer stating that the Senate would consider the Border Act as a separate bill this week.

According to Planet Chronicle senior congressional correspondent Chad Pergram, the test vote on a motion to break a filibuster to begin debate on the bill is expected to fail, as it requires 60 yeas.

On Monday, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., and Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., issued a joint statement declaring that the bill would not be considered in the House if it were to be presented.

Congressional Democrats have remained silent as the Biden Administration has allowed criminal drug cartels, terrorists, and millions of illegal immigrants to enter the country. Now, Leader Schumer is attempting to provide cover for his vulnerable members by bringing a vote on a bill that has already failed in the Senate due to its codification of the Biden administration's disastrous open border policies, which caused the crisis in the first place.

Mayorkas stated that the border bill is a "necessary outcome" and he would not cease advocating for it or lose hope.

He explained that the American people and the United States Border Patrol deserve and need it, and the United States Border Patrol Union supported this legislation. He also stated that he will continue to push for it.

Mayorkas defended the Biden administration's border policies, stating that they were implemented "a long time ago" but "it takes time for them to take effect."

"We constructed capabilities in Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Mexico, and it takes time for them to develop. However, we continue to work within our authority. He emphasized the need for Congress to take action."

Republican lawmakers have criticized the Biden administration for rescinding several Trump-era border policies, including "Remain in Mexico" and the Asylum Cooperative Agreements, which halted asylum agreements with El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.

The number of migrant encounters and "known gotaways" at the southern border has increased under President Biden.

Over the past three years, from fiscal year 2021 to fiscal year 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection received 1.6 million "known gotaways" through a FOIA request by Planet Chronicle. During the decade of FY 2010 through FY 2020, under former Presidents Obama and Trump, authorities recorded more than 1.4 million "known gotaways."

Despite political rhetoric, Mayorkas emphasized that the Biden administration has been enforcing the law from the start and encouraged the public to examine the history of migration instead of taking quick political shots.

In 2020, low migration numbers at the southern border were attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic and the allure of economic opportunities in the US by the DHS secretary.

"The United States has around 8 million vacant jobs that American workers are not filling, which presents an opportunity for them to remain in the country for too long. However, despite this, the asylum system is fundamentally broken. Despite the challenges, the authorities have returned or removed more people in the last 12 months than in any full fiscal year. Additionally, the legal muscle is being used more aggressively than it has been in the past."

"The Senate must pass the legislation."
