'Mary Magdalene from 'The Chosen' shares how her biblical role impacted her: "I felt so connected to her."'
Elizabeth Tabish and Jonathan Roumie share their experiences on the set of the new season of 'The Chosen'
Elizabeth Tabish, who portrays Mary Magdalene in "The Chosen," has shared how the role impacted her emotionally.
Mary Magdalene, who encounters Jesus during a low point in her existence, experiences redemption and compassion from her Savior, subsequently dedicating the remainder of her life to him.
"During a recent joint interview with Jonathan Roumie, Tabish shared that when he first booked the role, he was going through similar emotional states. He was struggling to find meaning in his own life and couldn't make rent. Despite these challenges, he felt a strong connection to the character in the script and was drawn to the audition."
Another poignant scene in the series came to mind when the actress thought of a woman disregarding her father's wishes to follow Jesus.
She reflected on how the choice creates division within families and communities, and how putting one's life on the line for it can have unforeseen consequences.
Mary Magdalene and the other disciples experience a range of "emotional giants," including grief and loss, during the season.
Jesus will remind church leaders who have "twisted the teachings of their ancestors" what it "entails to love, to show mercy and compassion," Roumie says.
