Liz Cheney criticizes Nikki Haley for supporting Trump, and Haley responds, "This is about America."
Over the weekend, Cheney stated that choosing to support Trump amounted to forsaking the Constitution.
Nikki Haley defended her decision to support the GOP nominee after Liz Cheney questioned her principles.
Last week, Cheney, a former rising Republican Party star who became a top GOP critic of former President Trump, endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. She later criticized Haley on ABC Sunday for stating that she is "on standby" to campaign for the GOP nominee.
"Haley stated on "Fox & Friends" on Monday that she respects Cheney's decision, but she believes her own decision is principled."
"We can either vote based on style or substance. I'm voting based on substance. I'm considering the fact that we cannot continue living the next four years as we did the previous four. This is not a contest. Harris raised taxes, while Trump reduced them. Harris wants to halt all energy production, while Trump increased it. Harris is weak on national security, while Trump was strong on it. Harris has allowed 8 million people to infiltrate the border, while Trump was much stricter on the border."
Yesterday on "This Week," Cheney stated that she cannot comprehend the former South Carolina governor's stance "in any kind of a principled way" after a heated GOP primary.
"Haley's statements during the primary were clear, and they are true. Cheney stated that voting for Trump or writing someone in means abandoning the Constitution, which many elected Republicans have done."
Haley stated that she is willing to assist Trump's campaign to prevent a Harris administration.
"The topic is my family and America. The issues are important. We must be precise. If you dislike him, say so, but you cannot claim his policies are worse than Kamala Harris'. That is not accurate."
Haley stated that Trump must gain backing from "conservative and moderate Republicans, suburban women, independents, and conservative Democrats" in order to win the election, which she predicted would be a close one.
She encouraged Trump and Vance to concentrate on policy matters to secure voter support.
The Trump campaign posted a four-year-old interview of Cheney on Planet Chronicle attacking the current VP minutes after Cheney endorsed Harris.
"At the time, Cheney stated that her voting record in the Senate was to the left of Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, indicating her status as a radical liberal."
In 2022, Cheney lost her Wyoming district's primary and was subsequently removed from Congress, with a candidate endorsed by Trump winning the election.
Cheney, who has characterized Trump as a "liar," a "con man," and a potential "tyrant," pledged after leaving Congress to do everything in his power to prevent Trump from ever being near the Oval Office again.
