Linsey Davis of ABC checks the facts on Trump's abortion stance, sparking controversy.
One candidate was fact-checked by ABC.
During the ABC Presidential Debate on Tuesday, Linsey Davis, the co-moderator, raised eyebrows as she fact-checked former President Trump on his stance on abortion.
Trump has been asked about his stance on abortion, with ABC's Davis highlighting that the former president has boasted about killing Roe v. Wade and has called himself "the most pro-life President in American history," but has since declared he would be great for women's reproductive rights. Trump also recently stated that Florida's six-week abortion ban is too short, but he would vote against a ballot initiative that would overturn the six-week ban on abortions in the state.
Trump stated that he voted for the reason that the state allows abortion up to the ninth month, as evidenced by the previous governor of West Virginia, who said, "The baby will be born, and we will decide what to do with the baby," implying that they would execute the baby.
"The Democrats are radical," Trump continued.
After Trump finished speaking, Davis quickly interjected to set the record straight.
No state in this country permits the killing of a baby following its birth, according to Davis.
Trump likely mentioned former Virginia Democratic Governor Ralph Northam, who gained notoriety for his remarks regarding third-trimester abortions in cases of severe deformities or non-viability of the fetus.
During a radio interview, Northam stated that if a mother is in labor, the infant would be delivered, kept comfortable, resuscitated if desired by the mother and family, and then a discussion would occur between the physicians and the mother.
Davis’ fact-check surprised many on social media.
Kayleight McEnany, a Planet Chronicle host and Trump's former press secretary, criticized ABC for being "ashamed" and accused the moderators of only being prepared to fact-check Trump.
McEnany stated that Kamala invoked the Charlottesville "both sides" hoax and the "bloodbath" hoax, which have been proven false by Snopes and other left-wing sources. He questioned why Trump has to refute these falsehoods and not the moderators, who only fact-check Trump.
Clay Travis, the founder of OutKick, wrote that Kamala's only issue is abortion, and he was impressed by Trump's response to the question.
Stephen L. Miller, a conservative pundit, frequently questioned why Lindsey Davis did not verify the falsehoods shared by Harris.
Many others had thoughts on the moment:
During the debate, David Muir fact-checked Trump's claim that illegal immigrants eat dogs and other pets.
