Lester Holt criticized by Middle East experts for not challenging Iranian president's false statements.
The Iranian president rejected any involvement of the Islamic Republic in the assassination attempt on Trump.
NBC's Lester Holt is being criticized by Middle East experts for not challenging Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's "bold-faced lies" during an interview aired Tuesday, including the claim that Iran never attempted to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump.
Jason Brodsky, policy director at United Against a Nuclear Iran, stated that the American media has been excessively accommodating to the Islamic Republic's leadership for a long time.
In November, the justice department revealed that Farhad Shakeri, a 51-year-old Iranian national, had been assigned by the IRGC to devise a plan to assassinate President-elect Donald J. Trump.
Pezeshkian rejected any Iranian role in the plot against Trump's life, stating that it was an Israeli false-flag operation aimed at fostering "Iranophobia."
Pezeshkian stated on "Nightly News" that the scheme to promote Iranophobia is a design by Israel and other countries, and that Iran has never attempted nor plans to assassinate anyone.
Holt was criticized by Brodsky for giving Pezeshkian an unchallenged platform on NBC, allowing the Islamic regime president to hold court with little opposition from the news anchor.
Brodsky stated on Planet Chronicle Digital that the Islamic Republic often uses US airwaves to manipulate American perceptions of Iran in a highly distorted way.
Emily Shrader, a human rights activist and Israeli journalist, labeled Pezeshkian's denial as a "boldfaced lie" and highlighted a 2022 animation on Ayatollah Khamenei's website depicting an Iranian drone targeting Trump on his golf course.
Those responsible for the murder of Soleimani and the subsequent assassination must be held accountable.
On January 3, 2020, in Baghdad, Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' elite Quds Force, was killed by a strike ordered by President Trump.
Brodsky said, "I would have confronted him. What do you say to this? Let me play this video. What do you say?"
Holt missed an opportunity to provide a voice to the 80 million people oppressed by the Islamic theocratic regime, as stated by Shrader, a journalist herself.
It's disappointing to see an American top journalist not doing his research, not doing his job, and showing up unprepared, as Shrader stated.
NBC News did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
